Take the trip. User your vacation to stay longer than a week. Ride your bike in the mornings before work and weekends. This approach you will not regret - unless your friends suck

What would Mark Twain do?
On bikes: Get a bicycle. You will not regret it. If you live. - Taming the Bicycle
On travel: Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime.

My friends left already Its to late for me to join them. I feel bad but I work two jobs and long hours and my bikes are my only stress relief. They're also better off financially Id feel like a poser dropping that much cash on a weeks vacation. At least the wheels are somewhat of an asset.
My new wheels will be put to good use on weekend climbs and next years race season. Besides I plan to be a millionaire in the next 10 years Ill take em with me to spain as guest next time.

When you get older you will not have friends to go to Europe with.
Sell the bike. Go to Europe. Have fun. People get baggage as they age.
Next time you want to go, sign up for L'Etape and go with the tour group. A 61 year old friend just did that.
