I name them after Clint Eastwood's characters in the Sergio Leone 'Spaghetti Westerns" he starred in.

Bye the way, I did often did think of my Raleigh Professional as "Big Blue" after I had it repainted

Until then, how about naming a bike "Needs Chain Lube" and debating which lube it needs on the fork off this thread?

Fun fact: Much footage was filmed in Spain, including the scenes at Sad Hill Cemetery in The Good, the Bad & the Ugly. I rode through the Tabernas Desert area where a lot of that movie was filmed. I kept yelling “Blonde! You know what you are?….” At one point I stopped for a snack. A Guardia Civil vehicle with a machine gun on the back passed by. I kept my mouth shut then.

Tuco’s full name is Tuco Benedicto Pacifico Juan Maria Ramirez.

In my observations of both cyclists and car folks, namers tend to be women much more often than men.

My bikes are called...
- "Road bike"...or sometimes "Storck"
- "Mountain bike"...but rarely "Trek". If I'm talking with other Trek Procaliber owners, I will refer to my bike as "9.9"
- "Gravel bike"...but never "Bear"
- "Singlespeed"...or sometimes "old mountain bike", or "9900"
- "Colnago"
- "Time"
- "Nishiki"...or "dad's bike"

The Red Rocket and the Green Flash.
I do anthropomrophize objects. As we go through experiences, tours, the bikes reveal their characters and become companions as much as tools.

“My bike” usually.

I’m fond of the Bridgestone I use to carry everything, so I sometimes call it “The Mule” because of its schlumpy sun-faded expandable trunk bag, which apparently has more dimensions than The Luggage.

So far, the Speed Uno is just “The Folder”, although I’m pretty sure when I finish its IGH makeover, I’ll probably refer to it as “The Trio”.

The van is just “The Van”. I’m not fond of the van.

Wasn't the only name used for him in that movie was 'Preacher Man'? Not a Sergio Leone movie, but my favorite Clint western. Great movie, lots of great action scenes (some 'stolen' from other movies), some funny parts, and an epic final 10 minute shootout scene.

'Preacher Man' might make a good name for a bicycle, maybe make a decal for one of mine.

Do you give bike names to your humans?

Did you meet my daughter Brompton and twin sister Schwinn?

Yes.

And if they're behaving badly, I come up with other ones. But fortunately it doesn't happen often.

I named my bike Bob Jackson. No I named my child Bob Jackson. One was named after the other but can’t remember which. Or maybe it was MASI??

I never did name my bicycles back in the '70s, although I puzzled over what to call the frame I made, as my last name is common, with no pizzaz at all. My training buddy had no problem - "It's a Fred-o frame!"

And so, 45 years later, I put Fredo on the down tube, because I haven't thought of anything better in the meantime. Alan Fischer, you were right! It is a Fredo frame.

My 29'er is already named Marlin.
Think I will change it to "Rambo."

Not really, but once, I was thinking of a theme for my Technium, and, considering everything we'd been through together, I conjured the motif "Believe In Me". Someday, I might put that on the back of the seat tube, vertically.
