Apps for Cyclists
Yo dudes! Just want to ask what tracking app are you using when cycling? I heard about Strava, Map My Ride, Wahoo Fitness and etc. but, haven't tried any of those.
What can you recommend that I may use easily? For the past, I'm not using any since I rely to my buddies but, they are no longer here. They transferred to another state.
Hope you can help me with this. Thanks!

I use Map my Run which I just click on the Road Cycling Activity (for road cycling) and it calculates distance, speed, time, calories, elevation and splits for each mile. I use this one because I can just click on other activities I do for workouts such as mountain biking or mountain hiking too and track the elevation gained. You get to see the map of the route you traveled too. It's very easy to use.

I use Ride with GPS (excellent route builder), it ties in with Garmin Connect (Garmin Fenix 6, speed sensor, cadence sensor, HRM strap) and Strava. Map my ride was not helpful, even though I use MyFitness Pal everyday.

I will check out Ride. BTW myfitnesspal had a data breach. I think that's what worries me about using these apps.

All of my riding buddies are on Strava. It must be pretty easy, since most of them aren't very bright.

That's hardly news anymore, it's a matter of when the next breach happens, not if. You need to protect yourself, use unique passwords, strong passwords, limit what info you give the app. You don't have to give them your real birthday, or even a real name. Use something like Paypal with two factor authentication to pay any fees.

I use Map My Ride. It tells me my distance, time, shows my route, that's all I need. Only thing I don't like it doesn't auto-pause, so if you stop, you have to fish the phone out to pause it and remember to restart it. I forgot to restart one time and it didn't track the rest of my ride.

i've used strava, cyclemeter, ride with gps, and map my ride. all of them feature a free version with stripped down features. i finally settled on cycle meter due to its simplicity. recently i started paying for the full features mostly to get the sensor features working. it uploads rides to strava if you like that sort of thing. i do becasue i can then review the ride on a bigger screen. it is something like 10 or 11 dollars a year. i would have used strava but they no longer support sensors (unless that has changed).

Everyone has data breaches…trust me. Some we hear about, some we don’t. If bad actors want my ride info, I’m not worried about it in the least. They are welcome to it. My personal data? Thanks to Experian, that was compromised years ago. And then a few years ago, Facebook sold it. And then Facebook compromised it. To be fair, over the years other companies have informed me of more minor breaches too.
I use Strava. Works great. Interfaces with my Wahoo ride computer.

Look at all you filthy casuals, meh. The ONLY way to "track" a ride is with a sextant. You probably all ride plastic bikes too.

When I switched to Garmin products (first with an Edge 820, and now with an Edge 1030 Plus) I shifted to Garmin Connect and Strava. Mostly I use Garmin Connect for creating routes that I upload to the GPS, and also rely on the GPS uploading the actual ride course and statistics to Connect and Strava for me automatically. It's so convenient that whenever I try one of the other solutions I end up back at Connect.

I've tried most apps and settled on Wahoo Fitness for all bike rides and most running and walking sessions. It's generally more reliable and lower resource demand than Strava, and more compatible with sensors (although Strava recently resumed supporting some sensors).
Later I'll sync to Strava, since that's a good social networking site for my local friends (minus politics and hot button issues). It's been helpful the past year when I rarely see my local friends due to the pandemic.
For running and walking I use Map My Run/Walk when I'm wearing Under Armour shoes that have a Bluetooth sensor that records data. It's useful data-nerd stuff to check my pace, stride length, foot strike angle and duration, etc. But it doesn't play nice with Strava so I usually record to Wahoo Fitness and sync to Strava later.
I tried Map My Ride but didn't really see any advantage over Wahoo Fitness and Strava so I deleted the apps. I might try it again if I needed more access to route planning, especially in conjunction with groups or event rides for waypoints, etc. I usually ride solo and just wing it, no planned routes, so I don't really need navigation aids.

I use a Garmin Edge 200 on the bike. After the ride I upload the info to Garmin Connect which automatically sends it to my Strava account. Simple.

Well, this thread makes it difficult to choose from Though, most suggest using strava. Though, what features are in the paid subscription? or free subscription is enough?

Just for an update, I already installed Stava and been using it this past few days. Though, I got a question. How to rank on Leaderboards and Segments, or be crowned a Course Record?

I carry my Samsung phone with me, I have a Samsung Watch and I use the Samsung Health app. When I begin to ride my bike, I choose the "cycling" exercise option from my watch. It records my heartrate, maps where I rode around, shows where I stopped to take a break, the weather during the bike ride and a few other cool things.
