You see, then the cows go cowforums.net and post threads about "Those elitist humans. They don't even moo at us."

Almost all my riding is past cow pastures and no I can't resist "talking" to the livestock.

We have some group rides in my area, but I do spend a lot of miles riding solo. That has gotten me into the habit of talking to ALL of the animals that I see. Ducks, turkey, chickens, deer, etc...

In hindsight, I suppose I really do look foolish as I sing the llama song when I pass by some of the local farms with llamas. here's a llama, there's a llama....argggg

When riding past cows, I've been tempted to "Moo" at them. Sometimes, I sing, "Hey, cow! I see you now!" which elicits a Moo from them. I've never called out to sheep but after seeing me ride by on one occaision, three sheep broke out of their pasture and followed me for more than 5 miles! Go figure.

Not at Cows or Sheep.

I only quack at Ducks. And, I have no idea why I do that.

Funny thing is, when I start, everyone riding with me will quack at them.

I drive past Canadian Geese every day, but I've never been able to do a decent goose honk.

When I ride past geese, there might be one or two that hiss or try to puff up and look big. I'll hiss or growl back at them.

I don't know why... with wild animals, it feels right to make guttural noises instead of verbalizing.
But pets, I verbalize to.

there's this one farm we pass by on one of our rides that has sheep, and sometimes you can catch a glimpse of a couple of lambs. Sometimes I'll just stop and see the lambs up close...they're so CUTE. Once one of them came right up to the fence...baaaa! I just love little baby lambs...i'm always hoping that no one eats them, but I don't think they're eatin' lambs. There's also a few other farms where you see cows and horses...most of them are food farms, lettuce, corn whatever. The dairy farms are further away, but there are a few not too far...i love cows too.

Cows and horses are scared of me, Sheep don't seem to mind, Pigs are clearly fascinated by me.

I usually moo at them too. I will get worried if I hear them talking back to me like Dr. Dolittle.

It's just an opportunity to "cow tip." Be forewarned, cows can get pissed off, and they can run much faster than you think.

Turkeys are fun - they make lots of noise, but will shut up if you yell at them.

I ride a lot on country roads outside of Omaha, Nebraska. Plenty of farms and I see my share of cows. I cannot resist looking at them and saying hello or moo to them for some strange reason.

Could be their big, expressive eyes, and the fact that you're riding on a lot of lonely Nebraska country roads.

I do gobble at wild turkeys. The toms will sometimes answer back. Of courser a shout of "Hey" will get them to gobble back too.
