Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Just to expand on what you are saying:
The court HAD to convict on breach technically, since there was an overlap with Choi. BUT, the $1 is stating that Specialized lawsuit was bs. So, Specialized won a small technicality but the moral victor is Volagi.
I think it hurt Specialized because it's just petty and sad. Specialized sued for using the color red, said it was theirs among other claims.
It doesn't show well for the company, that's for sure.

They basically twisted Choi's action of trying to be a nice guy and finish his existing work before leaving into something else.

"According to Choi, he was found guilty due to his actions after putting in for resignation from Specialized. "We formed the company right at the time Barley [Forsman] and I told them we quit," said Choi. "But they enticed me to stay and work, and finish my work; I did that on their behalf, and they used that against us. At the end of the day there was this overlap in the written contract saying that I was still employed."
Forsman left Specialized at time of resignation and before co-founding Volagi; therefore he was found not guilty of breach of contract."

Nice bike indeed and good luck with it. Only reason I won't buy one is the brakes. Avid BB7's (I think), which aren't the best. Could put XO's on it although there goes the weight.

+1. OTOH, the Volagi does have a "diamond" frame, two wheels, BB, crankset, cassette, chain, arresting method: clearly a clone. I'm ashamed to have supported that design-stealing upstart.

Seriously, let's give credit to Volagi for the entrepreneurship and probably accelerating the introduction of disc brakes into the world of road bikes. Choice is a good thing. Not every rider will need or want disc brakes, but if your a good-sized rider do one big descent on a disc-brake equipped bike and you'll understand the potential and can make your own decision about the trade-offs involved.

Nice! You can be the first to run SRAM RED Hydro disc road with that setup!
That is a TALL headtube, you could slam the stem down with no real comfort penalty, I imagine.

nice bike!

I test rode a Viaje a few months ago when Crank 2 (Tandem shop in Pleasanton, CA) held a Volagi demo bike day. Got to talk to Robert and Barley as well about its design.

It was built up with Campy Chorus. Rides like Steel and handles like Carbon. Wonderful bike.

This is a good thing in my book.

Any general opinion on weight? I'm hoping it winds up 20lb or less. I realize it's steel, but Jamis is able to pull off 17lb with its Eclipse which is also steel and Ultegra gruppo, and I've my fingers crossed that Volagi has been able to achieve similar here.

So how is your Liscio working out after a few weeks?

I bought a 2013 Force group and swapped over. 52/36 11-28. Got in 112 miles 7800' yesterday.

After over 500 miles, both commute and weekend longish rides, I have to say that I am very impressed by the bike, more than I expected in fact... the best way I can describe it is that it's like a diesel engine, once you get it started, it runs smooth and rolls great. Other than that a little hesitation at start (which I attribute to the stiffness, or the lack of comparing to my Cervelo RS, of the frame), I feel my power is transferring well into the bike and the weight of the bike is not holding me back on climbs comparing to the 15-lb Cervelo. The days it rained/snowed here, I just put some fenders on and it was the best "beater" bike one could ever have. For now, it still has the stock 25mm Rubino Pro on it, I am thinking about getting some 28mm GP 4Season for the winter season.

As for the other components, I am keeping the Ultegra for the time being. One thing I would like to do is upgrading the wheels to get this thing down to 19 lb range. But the 130mm rear dropout spacing is a limiting factor in finding disc wheels.

I also had the opportunity to see one of these in-person and was really impressed by the design of the whole rear end of the bike, really. However, the front of the bike is just... well... everyone has different tastes. I would really like to see what Volagi could come up with for something closer to a race-geometry bike.

I'm jealous. I've loved that bike since I saw the first ads. It's UNIQUE, and probably is a smoother ride than many. I just am not in that price range for a bicycle. But you enjoy!

I took the plunge and bought a Volagi after a long demo. Liscio2 or Volagi, the ride of this bike with its patented rear stay flex technology, combined with awesome discs at a great price point make this a bike everyone needs to look at!
