Yellow Jersey: is it allright? just curious

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

And the vast majority of pro races are won on bikes equipped with either Shimano or Campy components. My bike has some of each. I guess I'm a double poseur. :-(

In the context of a race, the yellow can have a particular meaning. Outside of a race, it's just a color (and a common one as well).

I'd be surprised if anybody on a ride would make a serious comment about it.

As said before, yellow is a high vis color. And if anyone is offended, too bad for them.
I have a plain yellow jersey and a World Champion stripped cap. Nobody ever complained about that. Maybe because it's so obvious that, at 58, I'm not trying to impersonate a pro.

Wearing a yellow jersey is easy. I wear a yellow jersey as well, with bumblebee striping. Why not?

Just wear it. Some may be offended, but don't pay attention to them. They wear what they want too.

Yellow is okay but I don't see a lot of things it looks better than. Do what you want man, I am pretty indifferent when it comes to this.

Ironically. Posers are the ones that worry most about the color jersey that the other guy is wearing. Yellow is high visibility and not quite the fashion fopaw of the hi-vis green, which is what we really should all be wearing.

Bit of a failed analogy.

The topic here is whether someone is breaking an "unwritten rule of style/etiquette" for wearing something that pro's earn in a race. Naturally the non-petty perspective here is to say "wear what you want, screw what others think".

For me, that applies to everything except replica jerseys of races you did not participate in, nor did you earn (ie I cant help but be bugged when I see someone wearing a replica TDF points jersey, yellow jersey, etc )

Who cares if you are wearing yellow. Not me. It's a free country, assuming you are not reading this from somewhere like North Korea.

And if it is a team yellow jersey - even better. Part of the sales profit goes to that team, so you are a supporter.

Some people have nothing else to do but complain about others.

I did not realize this p*sses off other cyclists. I will do two things:

1. Wear a yellow jersey.
2. Gain a bunch of weight (a fat yellow-jersey'd kid might p them off some more.

You've got the idea. However due to the scale of the pro races (TdF, Giro etc) that we all know about, it's common knowledge that he didn't win that race... and probably doesn't even have the intention to. If I see someone riding down the street with a replica of the TdF climber's jersey, all I think is that he likes that design, the Tour, and whoever the climber was that won the jersey. Same with the guys with the Belgian Nat Champ jerseys - they admire Boonen, or just really like the Belgian colors, either way its only appearance. He knows he won't win that race, and there is no harm/threat in him wearing it as he rides down the street. He doesn't honestly expect to carry himself off as anything close to either a nat champ or pro race winner.

"I cant help but be bugged when I see someone wearing a replica TDF points jersey, yellow jersey, etc"

Once a year I pull on my replica TdF polkadot jersey. I do it after I ride to the top of the steepest street in Los Angeles, on the day of the annual Fargo St. Hill Climb in Los Angeles. I wear it not only because I have made it up the hill again, but because I was the record holder for a while for most ascents in one day. It seems, to me, like the perfect tongue-in-cheek jersey to wear on that day.

I have a yellow bike jersey that occasionally gets worn. I also have a red soccer jersey, and a yellow ski jacket.

I don't see an issue, as a matter of fact would not be any different to wearing the KOM shirt in a hilly route:

Yeah, as much as "who cares?" comes into play, I think behavior and ability might be a factor as well. I'd notice if someone was in TDF Yellow and assume they were a big fan of Contador, Armstrong, any number of riders, but I'd actually laugh if they acted like a **** on a group ride.
