I have three ridable bikes:

An IGH hybrid I use for riding to work,
An older steel road bike
A ti mountain bike.

Without too much trouble or sacrifice I can keep all three in runnning order - made easier by the fact that I usually only have time to ride one. :/

I have several bikes in good working condition, but only 2 are my main rides, one for fair weather and the other for foul. The other bikes are either for guest rides or making an occasional parade lap when the mood strikes me.

2 with a 3rd getting ready. 1 is a hybrid converted to drop bars as my main commuter, 1 road bike for commuting when I want a bit more speed, and a cheap mountain bike (my sister's old bike), which I am just setting up to use as a cheap bike to lock up outside when I go out.

I have 4 ready to go at any time, but only 3 that I ride regularly (two get 2,000+ miles a year, the third only about 500 miles/year). The 4th gets only a couple of hundred miles a year, I'm considering selling it or rebuilding it into something I will use more.

I have 4 -
1. Specialized Tarmac - full carbon road bike.
- It's great, but after buying it, realized I couldn't ride it in winter, and wasn't about to leave it locked up outside the grocery store, thus my additional bikes.
2. Civia Highland
- Winter bike. Intended to use it as a winter/commuter bike, but now only use it as the winter bike. Don't get me started on the things I'm cranky about with this bike.
3. Specialized Sequoia
- My "commuter" bike. Rack, clip-on fenders, lights, etc. It was a big relief when I got this - it's cheap enough that I feel like there's no need to be super extra paranoid about it being stolen. Having a decent paying job helps with this, lol, would have been a different deal entirely on a college budget. It's also great that it fits in the back seat of my car, so it's easy to transport.
4. Specialized Rockhopper.
- Can't do actual mountain biking on any of my other bikes, eh? :-)

Over the course of the year I use all of them. Obviously I'm not maintaining my winter bike in the summer or visa-versa, but over the course of a year they're all ridden at least several times and maintained.

OK some of you will think I have way too many but I have always been a big Bianchi fanatic and recently became a bikeaholic. I have 12 bikes in ridable condition that I rotate and ride as often as I can. in order of as aquired

Bianchi "90 Proto, Project 3, 2000 Mega Pro XL Ti, '90 Proto (yes two), 91ish Boarala, 87 Grizzly, 86 Volpe, 89 Equinox, 95ish? Vento 603. the Boarala and Vento I got as frame onlys.

I also own a 81 Rigi and a '09 Moto Fantom Uno, in some state between just need a good cleaning and frame only waiting to be built I have a '87 Sport Sx (rebuilt w/Campi) and '87 Sport SX frame only, a Mega Tube Ti, and a Cornelo

I have three bikes. They are listed in my signature below. I maintain and ride all of them.

My daughter has a bike that I maintain. My wife has one bike here at the house that has barely been ridden. My wife also has two other bikes in two other states. I have not yet seen these bikes.

I have 2 bikes, and I ride them both a lot. My MTB is an 07 Specialized Stumpjumper, and the road bike is an 09 Fuji Roubaix. I've upgraded every part on both bikes.

Because of the weather, the go fast bike only has 40 miles on it.

With the exception of an occasional flat, all are ready to go at a moments notice.

Road Fan

Right now it's three, not counting one for Mrs. Road Fan.

1980 +/- Woodrup, now set up in it's native role as a light tourer; gonna ride this one on a sag'd tour this summer.

1984 Trek 610; this is a good sport-tourer that makes a good go-fast. I adjusted the fork for more trail and I keep a compact double and a set of old tubular wheels on it. Not embarassing anyone on the road, but it's fun and comfy.

1973 +/- Peugeot UO-8; neither a tourer nor a go-fast, this has been rediscovered as a very comfortable ride.

Mrs. Road Fan rides a Cannondale Road Warrior, a lightweight hybrid.

I could use a city bike, like a Raleigh three-speed. Had a Phillips, decades back.

Retropean

0, they're all beat to hell being ridden, or just hanging up looking nice.

I've got a Dahon Boardwalk I keep in the car for getting around downtown. An old Bianchi Hybrid for the grocery store and light off road use. A Specialized Langster SS that I use for a rain bike and recovery rides and a Bianchi 928 that I use the most.

And some fat tire beach bikes that are communal family property at the beach.

The Bacchetta Giro 20 and Specialized Hard Rock do most of the mileage as my commuter and utility bikes respectively, but I also have two 10 speeds in rideable shape, a Kabuki Syd and an American Eagle/Nishiki. Lastly I keep a Giant Stiletto chopper for riding in parades.

The Old Gentleman- 1966 Raleigh DL-1 3-speed, rod brake roadster

I use this bike for tooling around the city on days off. I take it on an occasional grocery run. I like to take it on group rides because it draws lots of comments. It rides like a Cadillac

Orange Julius- 1973 Schwinn Varsity Sport that's been converted to a Tourist style bike

This is primarily a grocery getter and neighborhood bike. It was my backup commuter when my commute was only 7 miles. Now that it's 17 miles each, I'm not sure I could make it on this leviathan.

The Dumpster Queen- 1983 Raleigh Marathon

As the name implies, pulled her out of a dumpster. She's the odd bike out at the moment. I'm hanging on to her for the time being as a backup commuter. She's been the primary commuter at times when my other bike was down for extended periods. She was also my preferred bike for club rides and longer urban exploration rides. I may sell her soon, or maybe take her up north so I'll have a bike to ride when we visit family.

(as yet unnamed... I was thinking something like Darth Schwinn but it just doesn't quite seem right)- 1987 Schwinn Prelude

Picked this bike up cheap at a pawn shop a couple months ago. It's replaced the Dumpster Queen as my best road bike. As such, I use it on club rides, rides around the city, etc.

The Daily Grind- 1994 Nishiki Sport XRS hybrid

My primary commuter, I put the majority of my miles on this bike.

Black Dog- 2009 Schwinn Cutter single speed

Another bike for tooling around and exploring and the occasional group ride. Mrs. Doohickie got it for me this past Christmas. A bit of a challenge to ride in the hills around here, but that just makes it more fun.
