What do you eat before you ride?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

get out of here old man, you haven't contributed anything.

for morning/noontime solo training rides, I usually don't have much. 1-2 cups of coffee/espresso, bagel or frozen waffles, or sometimes leftovers from the night before (slice of pizza, quinoa). if I know that it's going to be a more strenuous ride, I'll eat a proper meal at least 1-2 hours before, such as eggs and toast, a loaded turkey sandwich on wheat, pasta with pesto or meat sauce, etc.

I tend to pedal most always in the early mornings so I eat cereal before I ride.

A sausage and egg biscuit and hash brown from McCrappers which I wash down with a strawberry Yoohoo. Often you'll see me riding with large vanilla milkshake in my bottle cage. Oats...whole wheat blah blah blah...pssshh.

This!
The last group ride I was on, I was in a pinch for time and I needed to chow down a decent meal so I went for a 12" Subway sub about 30 minutes before riding. It was perfect.

I usually ride at 5:30am so just coffee. If I ride in the afternoon, nothing within 2-3 hours of riding. Today I'm riding 75 miles or so at 6 so I'll take a powerbar for the half way point stop. I try to drink a bottle of water every hour if possible. That seems to be more beneficial to me.
Post ride I drink protein powder mixed in coffee over ice. I don't know if it helps, but the Carmel Chocolate whey in coffee is the bomb!

If I end up waking up before dawn for a group ride: McDonalds sausage McGriddle combo with orange juice.

If not then probably a bucket of rice.

Porridge (Bob's Red Mill Scottish Oatmeal) - with maple syrup (Canada eh?) and cream.

"If it ain't Scottish, it's crap!..."

(yes I know Bob's Red Mill is not in Scotland)

Oatmeal is cooked oatmeal, so, yes, there is a difference.

Add chocolate.

today I had some cereal in soy milk, like I usually do, but the cold and wind.... I was STARVING at mile 25. Had one of those powerbar things and devoured it while chasing after my buddy on some hills! ugh.

Need more clothing? You can burn a lot of energy just trying to stay warm.

possibly, I felt like I had the combo right for the temp, a little chilly... I think the wind worked me more than I thought. But yeah, I probably could've used a little more layering.

Yep, pretty much this as well less the soy milk or any milk for that matter.

Then a Pop Tart before I go out the door.

The age of the person asking for it? That and perhaps geographical position. I hear "Oatmeal a lot more in the US, Porridge in UK.
