You might want to tell people where you live. The OP lives in Canada where things may not be what you think they are

If you are going at it completely solo know your limits and don't take on a job you cannot do just because you want or need the money. Having a shop with multiple mechanics means they can ask for help and bounce ideas off of each other or give the bike to the mechanic who would most be able to handle it in a professional manner. Youtube and things like Sutherlands or Zinn and the Art of _______ Bicycle Maintenance or the Park Tool book will be helpful as well.

If you are going to start a business then do it right. Do it as a JOB.
Running your own business is fun in itself and running one doing something you like is even more fun. But if you dont like all the different facets of running a business then maybe you should work for someone else in the field you want to explore first.
Capitalism is GREAT!

from an American who grew up watching CBC from Lethbridge because it came in better than American stations (Tab Hunter show, The friendly giant among others) and I spent a lot of time in Newfoundland with the Coast Guard

There are established shops in the Toronto area that are crying for mechanics.
You can put aside the worries of liability and parts sourcing and just go earn a paycheque doing what you love to do and learn something new every day.
I promise you that last part is true thanks to the pace of innovation these days.

Canada has Old Dutch potato chips, Mackintosh toffee, and Newfoundland (although there is some disagreement if Newfoundland is canada or europe......just get a shot of Skreech if you go there)
