I built two bikes specifically for wet weather during the Winter. One mtb, and one mtb with droppers and road tires for road rides. I don't mind riding in the rain but after some rides it gets old cleaning the bikes after every ride.

It is also more than ok to simply not go out for a day, unless you somehow make your living off your bike riding and running capabilities. I suspect if you are asking this question, you don't.

Rain specific bike. I don't ride my "nice" bikes in the rain. But I have no problem riding my rain bikes. I just don't worry about clean up until the end of the season. Typically I'll just hose it off to get the gunk off, then wipe the chain down and re-lube it. It's worked for me. Otherwise I just suffer on the trainer. For anyone who thinks time flies, get on a bike trainer for an hour, LOL!

If you're fine running in the rain but not riding, you've made your own decision. Go running.

Don't you get wet doing that, too?

I have a multi use, older bike that has fenders and mudguards. When it gets gunked up from riding in nasty weather I do not sweat it.I clean it right away if I can. If not, I clean it off when I can. I use the shower stall in my spare bathroom. The shower head is on a flexible hose/tube and can be pulled out of the holder to spray the bike off. I bounce the bike a few times to get most of the water off, then either wipe it down with soft cloth or leave it there for later if I am pressed for time. Lubricate and all is good.

OK then, guess it is running for you.
Or get a bike with fenders. I've been on many wet rides, its not that bad. The again, neither is not going out in the wet, even for a couple days.

I have a couple ways of dealing with it.
Wait for a break in the rain and head out for a distance that approximates the time AccuWeather suggests I should be Ok, or head to the gym and do some time on a bike, and some time on the stairs, followed by some weight work.

what does the bf world do to train on rainy days...I don't ride in the rain .I don't like getting wet and all the bike clean up that follows...using a trainer indoors is boring and torture....I have been running 10 miles on days when its not raining to hard..just wonder what everybody else does

I ride my bike when I feel like it, which is usually everyday rain or shine all year round. I am not "training" for anything when I ride my bicycle and if I didn't like it I wouldn't do it, hence no need to concern myself with "training" rides or a tortuous boring trainer.
In a distant second place, having a rain bike makes the decision a bunch easier.

Love hearing about the Californians toughing it out in the rain. At least in California the rain is a bit warmer than say Seattle or Vancouver BC.

I use a weather program with radar and I can pretty much judge an open one hour window. I don't mind the wet, got fenders just for that. Avoid the big puddles and minor floods. I seldom miss a day without two one hour rides.

Ride. Or not.
I like to remind myself I'll only be getting wet for a minute or two. After that I already am wet and the rain doesn't matter either way.

How about getting a back-up bike to ride when it rains?

Put together a rainy day fix gear. Fenders, 28c tires, Good brakes. 1980s Japanese sport bikes sized for 27" wheels work really well. Wear really bright cloths and enough layers that you are warm enough wet. Check the weather. Ride upwind 20-50 miles upwind, turn around and come home. Done. When I used to do this 40 years ago, I'd find a town upwind 50 miles out, stop for lunch, then spin my weary legs the 50 miles home.
Sunday I did nearly this on a 50 mile out and back in light rain and wind. Moved my gear up a tooth. Hard, hard ride for a 65 yo. Slight inclines against the wind were out of the saddle the whole way. I'll see real gains from it.

"Boy, I'm feeling great today, let's make this a long one!"
Turn around...
"Oh ****, that's why I felt so strong."
