I usually use Strava App, but broke my good phone. Now using olde phone which won't run Strava, Endomondo or RideWithGPS.
I settled on MyTracks as the first one I tried simple enough to run on the olde phone. I export as *.gpx then upload to strava. 'til the 3rd of September, then it's party time again!

Time and effort are more meaningful than distance. You can record perceived effort, or get a power meter, but that's another discussion.

As I said earlier, I use the Cyclemeter GPS app and have it upload to Strava.

Naw. That's a *.gpx file recorded by MyTracks and uploaded to Strava.
Have you entered your weight and bike weight into your Strava Profile?
I think that's the only info it needs in addition to speed and elevation change to make its wild guess at calories burned.

I didn't enter either number into my Strava profile - I figured if both the Cyclemeter GPS and Strava development groups got the communication right, Strava should be able to show everything coming from Cyclemeter GPS. But if I have to enter my body weight twice (once into CGPS, then Strava) then Strava's not really loading all the CGPS data.

The Strava is strong in this forum.
Thanks guys, I'll try entering weights into my Strava profile.

Actually, I find Strava to be the most used app out of all the options out there, and I prefer to the Garmin ride tracking software.

So far Strava continues to be the best option for uploading my CGPS data but a nice bonus is the comedy - some of the segment names range from cute to ridiculous. I also get a kick out of seeing that I rank 1208 out of 1321 on some segment.

Golden Cheetah to analyze the data on a Linux computer, although it also runs on Windows and Mac.
What is the one stat you put emphasis on most?
Average MPH?? If so, what is your goal?

My problem with some of these apps is the timer keeps going when I stop.
Are there apps that do not have this problem?

I just use a standalone hand-held GPS. It gives me a speed readout and the time of day, if I need it there's a topographical/street map available of Australia. Each week I record the GPS odometer reading and reset it to keep track of how long I have to the next service.
The speed readout and odometer of course needs to be taken with a grain of salt, but it's better than nothing and doesn't require any hardware attached to the bike.

Like many of the previous respondents, I rely primarily on Strava, the free version on my IPhone, although I simultaneously run Cyclemeter and MapMyRide as well. My main interest is miles ridden and while all 3 Apps show similar results, they do vary by 0.3 or so miles on my 13-15 mile rides, along with similar differences in average speed. The latter is about which I care the least (doesn't it matter to me if I averaged 11.9 or 12.2 mph!).
Overall, it works quite nicely for me.
Best regards

I really try to stay above a 13 or 14 MPH average if at all possible, when I'm riding alone. I find that pace keeps my heart rate up pretty good, which is what you want most of the time. Then, there's times I like riding with family or friends where I don't worry about the pace so much, just the fun. But... I still try to get some distance in even then.

I use Polar RC3 GPS, with a cadence monitor. I like it and upload it to mapmyride just for S&Gs. Trek has a little insert for a different cadence monitor, but i had the polar thing so i added poalr's version.
I compare heart rate vs cadence sometimes .... other times heart rate vs mph. To a lesser extent mileage vs the previous three measures.
kind of depends on the day, i.e. temp, wind, humidity, etc

I use Garmin Edge with a program SportsTracker. I use another program Viking and/or gpsbabel if I want to slice and dice them further for any reason.

I'm going on a group ride tomorrow that will end at a restaurant, then I'll be riding back home. If I remember I'll take a look at Cyclemeter GPS while I'm seated and see if the clock is still running.
I'm taking a look at my last ride on Strava (exported from Cyclemeter GPS). It's reporting a total moving time of 1:31:05 which looks about right. It does report an elapsed time of 3:40:33, which also looks about right. I rode from work to WABA's monthly happy hour, hung out there for a couple of hours, then rode home.
There's a discrepancy between Strava and Cyclemeter in that Cyclemeter reports a moving time of 1:28:25 and a ride time of 2:12:08. I don't know if it's because I manually hit stop after I'd been sitting at the table with fellow area cyclists for a while, then resume on the app after everyone parted ways and I'd unlocked my bike, ready to go.
I'll just leave the app alone tomorrow during the brunch portion of the group ride and see what it does.
