As much as this is a 11 year old thread it is a good one at least.

One of my favorites has always been this one:
“When the spirits are low, when the day appears dark, when work becomes monotonous, when hope hardly seems worth having, just mount a bicycle and go out for a spin down the road, without thought on anything but the ride you are taking.” - Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

“Changeable gears are a delusion. They will always be complicated and of very little use.” - Albert Overman, Victor bicycle company, 1896

"A variable gear is desirable on the machine to help cope with gradients if cycling is to become a popular pastime and not simply the plaything of health and physical fitness addicts." Frank Bowden, Raleigh bicycle company and a few years later, Sturmey-Archer,1896

“I want to see the world. Follow a map to its edges, and keep going. Forgo the plans. Trust my instincts. Let curiosity be my guide. I want to change hemispheres. Sleep with unfamiliar stars, and let the journey unfold before me.”

I remember bicycling through West Africa and, having ridden beyond tourist accommodations, having to camp in rural villages. It was then I realized that I had more stuff on my bike than the entire village possessed. The self-inflating sleeping pad, the tent, the magical fire-making machine, medical supplies, and tools, not to mention the electronics, most of which I kept hidden. And this was on my bicycle. - Carla King

“Impress on your memory the roads and paths, villages and towns, outstanding church towers and other landmarks so that your will not forget them. Make a note of the names of places, rivers, seas and mountains. Perhaps you may be able to utilise these sometime for the benefit of the Fatherland . Should you come to a bridge which interests you, examine the construction and the materials used. Learn to measure and estimate the width of streams. Wade through fords so that you will be able to find them in the dark.” - advice to German youth cycletouring outside the country, German Cyclist magazine, German National Union for Physical Culture 1937

"The best things in life are free - a bed in God's great out-of-doors, fresh air, sunshine, moonlight raining down from a cloudless sky, wind rustling in the palms, waters lapping the river banks, frogs croaking, birds singing, the laughter and gaiety of children, the joyous companionship of your bicycle! Nothing is finer in a foreign land than a friend to share your joys and make them double; and your sorrows and make them half. This is true, even if your friend be only a bicycle." - Fred Birchmore

When I race at the velodrome, any time someone asked for last minute advice before a race, the reply would be "Go fast. Turn left."

You see whenever I'm alone
I tend to brood
But when I'm out on my bike
It's a different mood
I leave my brain at home
Get up on the saddle
No hanging around
I don't diddle-daddle
