Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Chip-seal especially on the completely smooth road that was just paved last year that has zero potholes. What the hell? Last week I was looking back to make sure the car behind me didn't hit me when I made my left turn onto said road so I didn't realize there was loose chip-seal covering the whole thing until I turned onto it and my bike got all squirrelly.

Cotton jerseys.

Sleeveless jerseys.

Arm warmers worn with sleeveless jerseys.

Leg warmers worn with the top parts over the shorts.

Seeing butt crack thanks to people who are too cheap to toss worn shorts.

Any jersey bearing the likeness of any breakfast cereal mascot or any member(s) of the The Three Stooges.

I might make an exception if it has a huge pocket sewn into the front.

Are you sure, riding the roads around around Sterling, VA is good way to join the DEAD pool.

Hah! Definitely. I've ridden along Route 7 at breakneck pace, hoping to survive. Westward 20 miles or so, though, and it soon gets hilly and beautiful...

There are speed limits on MUPS. It's usually around 15 mph. That's why I don't ride on a mup if I can avoid it.

Anything that squeaks, especially the saddle. Drivers that don't signal (same peeve while driving.) Always forgetting something in my 20-minute prep routine before riding (sunscreen, cell phone and money in small bag, check tire pressure, water bottle, tissues [end up blowing nose on sleeve]...) riders that call out "on your left when passing me," riders that don't call out "on your left" when passing me, riders passing me and scaring the hell out of me...
