Turned 70 on the weekend. Set out to do 70 miles with 5 friends. Strong headwind on the way back caused us to shorten the route a bit so not 70 miles. I'm ok with that, had a good time. Had a 12 mile climb with 2200 feet of gain.
Getting ready to go back down.

These rides are easier for me solo. This ride had 5 others including 2 e-bikes. During the first 20 miles of rollers and false flats and they were trying not to work me too hard but I didn't feel good until we stopped for snacks and rest a bit. Once we were on the climb I actually started feeling good. Part of the reason for this is I do not try to keep up on longer climbs and just settle in. One of my friends went out too hard and quit before the steep part of the climb.
This route had less than 5K feet. The plan was to get more climbing on the way back but since there was strong headwind they let me decide the route and I chose the less hilly road.

We used to use Manresa as a stop for bike tours down the coast, until the ranger told us we couldn't park our "commercial" support car in the parking lot. So we parked on the roadside, right outside the parking lot.

Hope you climbed the tower for the view. Rented road bikes in Siena and rode the countryside through the vineyards and fields to San Gimignano with the tall towers used for drying dyed cloth and linen. Thanks for the good memories

Looks like where I grew up (Paradise Valley, AZ), but I don't recognize any of the mountains in the background. Thanks for the photos!

Those are the Rincons to the east of Tucson. They were taken at McKenzie Ranch Open Space which is near Vail, AZ

We didn't! My SO was tired of climbing steps (we had done a lot of that in Cinque Terra and in Pisa) so we bagged it. If I have anything to say about it, I'll be back to Siena. It is a beautiful medieval town!

I hope you caught the ceremonial march around the piazza with all the town areas represented in their traditional costumes. We hiked the trail between the towns on the Cinque Terra and my wife’s back went out. The local Farmacia had muscle relaxers OTC that would require a prescription here. Hope you had a wonderful time.

The Grateful Dead?
From today’s ride. These skeletons are decorated for all the major holidays, and then get unique costumes for off holiday periods.

A lot of the trails between the Cinque Terra were closed due to landslides, but we were able to train around pretty successfully. UBER packed in the middle of the day, but not so much early and late in the day. I think a lot of people stay elsewhere and head to Cinque Terra for the day. We stayed in Riomaggiore, which was great.
The best part of the trip was babysitting the grand daughter. My daughter and son in law were attending a wedding in Florence and we volunteered to babysit. They were grateful, but needn't have been. What a privilege to have a date night out with your grand daughter showing her the sights of old town Florence.
Our house needs painting soon. I am thinking "Burnt Siena" would be a good color.
