Yeah Grant's photos were amazing. The full set is here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/thelive...7602149945677/

I just chose the picture that most conveyed my suffering.

They let me slide off the pack here. Was off the front for 20 minutes when 8-10 riders came up to me.

Nomad, you scare the hell out of me. Soloing off of the front in a Japanese race is not an easy feat if what my friends tell me is correct. You are going to darken the skies with your ability to impose your will on the east coast peleton.

I read the report for that race on your site, and after looking at the pictures it looks like utter chaos. Whats the over/under on the number of minutes it'll take you to lap the field in your first Cat 4 crit?

Enduro races here in Japan are definitely chaos. On wet roads they were worse.

We averaged just over 40 kph for the 2 hrs on this course, but while you're screaming along the course at speed in the 2 hour solo, there are 7 other races going on. You also never know what talent will show up. The one I did in July there was a guy who rides professionally and road the Japan national champs the week before. The one in August, professional MTB racer for Team Giant. This one was a little thinner because of the downpour that kept folks at bay. But even with the rain we averaged just under the avg speed for the previous 2 years - and last year was a gorgeous day.

There are family teams (with kids as young as 12), Mixed teams (all types of bikes), and solo races lasting 2, 3, or 6 hours. There is so much "road furniture" - read: people not doing 40kph that you have to avoid. It can be insane. Bikes with baskets, straight bars, mountain bikes, cross bikes, 2 tandems this year, and 2 recumbents this year.

If you're still sandbagging come spring time racing, I'll have to come up there so you can see how quick you can drop me. Otherwise you'll have to wait till summer if I can get upgraded to 3 by then and race 1/2/3's i your neck of the woods. My wife has a brother on the Jersey side of Philly, so I got extra reasons to go race. My schedule for March/April after the Tradezone/Quicksilver training stuff should be at least:

STRASBURG RR 3/4
UMD CRITERIUM
JEFFERSON CUP
WALKERSVILLE RR - 3/4
TYSON'S CORNER CRIT
BATTENKILL ROUBAIX
WINTERGREEN HILL CLIMB

My goal... race everything I can race and still walk to the fridge.

Yep... which you have to come to almost a complete stop to have done depending on how many folks are waiting to get marked. Does wonders for your lap times.

20 km out from the finish of a pan-flat 75km RR last month. 8th place wasn't a bad finish for a skinny climber.
