Completely contrary to what I just wrote. If you are going to have suspension on a mountain bike it’s way better to have good suspension and not TK or MoCo or Charger Race Day

Switch to a recumbent. That was 60,000 miles ago.

On equipment - “It’s the rider, not the bike.” One cannot buy speed, strength, or stamina.
On safety - ”Ride like they can’t see you.” I ride like they’re not even looking.
On building - “Confirm compatibility twice, buy once.” The collection of miscellaneous parts I’ve accumulated over the years suggests I need to work on this one.

This is one thing I tell myself...
I ride at night a bit, sometimes wobbling home after a LONG day on the road. Then get blinded with high beams.

The best biking advice I ever got, and this includes two-wheel and four-wheel motor sports is having good posture. I can’t tell you how much this helps to avoid shoulder, neck and lower back pain and discomfort.

"It's not the bike, it's the rider".
It's the same in every sport. One can buy the most expensive custom-made golf clubs and 99.99% of the golfers out there still could not beat a top 100 pro golfer. Baseball bats, same deal. Tennis racket, same. Bikes, same.
You're better off riding with riders that are better than you and learn from them rather than spend $X,XXX,XX dollars for a new bike. If you spend $3,000.00 dollars for top-flight golf lessons, you'll play better than if you just go out and spend the same for new clubs.

That is why I ride a $200 bicycle that is heavy and obsolete. I get a better workout than if I had a fancy easy to ride lightweight bike.
Otherwise, I agree with everything else you said. Equipment can never compensate for lack of skill and ability or practice.

I do think riding a featherweight bike will improve performance and demand less work.

In fact, I often glance down and see that my BPM is five or ten beats above the target range. Definitely a better workout on the lighter bikes.

Can’t agree more. If you want a hard workout, ride a heavy bike. If you want to have fun, get a light bike.

My memory of your posts last year was that you were frustrated by your lack of endurance. Doesn't sound like you should be giving out advice about what equipment to use for maximizing your workout.

I believe it is/was Paul Sucheki on UTube that said, "Have a sense of adventure."
Yesterday I discovered a creekside trail that just HAD to be there (not on the maps) and eliminates being on a high speed road for 5+ minutes. Beautiful scenery... much safer....
