what do you do with your keys and wallet when riding?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I use a Geigerrig 710 (small pack with water bladder to carry drinking water). Keys, wallet, cell phone go into this.

When I drive to a ride, I leave my Maserati in the garage and hop in my late 90s Ford Probe that I got for $300 on craigslist. I have a generic lock cylinder in it so it starts with any key. I just leave the doors unlocked and drop the key in a drink holder. That solves the key problem.

I'll leave my wallet at home. All I have is a money clip with a few Benjamins, my DL, and my CHL. Those go in a baggie under my G26 in my center jersey pocket, but I use a safety pin through my jersey to secure the bag to the jersey pocket. That way if I have to hose a couple charging dogs, it won't pop out with my G26.

Like most of you, I carry my stuff in a ziplock bag but, instead of carrying one of the three old driver's licenses that I found in a drawer yesterday, I carry an official California Identification card that cost me an extra couple bucks at the DMV.

You can also use an expired driver's license as identification.

No key because I generally launch from the house.
And no ID because I figure I'll just let the wife identify the body in the morgue.

All kidding aside, after a bad crash I got a Road ID which I always wear. Sorry OP, nothing to do with your keys and wallet question.

I carry a photocopy of my DL and insurance card, a credit card and some cash in a little folding plastic holder (like for business cards) - this goes in left pocket. Cell phone in baggie in center pocket. Folded up paper towel in right pocket. Car key (single valet key only) goes in the saddle bag.

So far so good.

My DL/CC, insurance info and cash go in a Neck ID holder inside my jersey, phone and a single car key go into my saddle bag along with my normal gear for flats.

I've tried to observe good techniques others use to carry wallets, keys, or cellphones...but I rarely see them at all. Just tucking such things in my back jersey pockets would never do [loss of keys or wallet would be major], plus the sweat would get to them. After tucking in spare tube, tire levers, patches, etc into the undersaddle bags, there is hardly room left for a wallet. So I've gone to an obtrusive larger frame bag that looks sort of FRED-ISH [sic].

So, it's a question I've been wanting to ask. You guys [other cyclists] have to be hiding such things somewhere other than those small underseat bags...right? It's a problem for me.
Wallet stays in the car. The car key is on a lanyard around my neck, under the jersey. I can used the door remote to lock/unlock the car without digging the key out, and there's no risk of loosing it. I use RoadId and have a small leather case with a photo id and a few dollars.

+1 RoadId is good, but sometimes a picture id is also needed.

I have spare car and house keys in my wallet all the time. I just put the wallet in a sandwich bag and in a jersey pocket. Cell phone and glasses in another sandwich bag and into another pocket.

I always (or nearly so) carry my car remote, credit card and ID wrapped in a $20 bill, and my cell phone in one or two jersey pockets (leaving other(s) for jacket and/or snacks). Sometimes I just put my wallet in there, and it's virtually is un-noticeable.

I sometimes use ziplock bags if it looks like it might rain, but 99% of the time, just put the stuff in the pockets. I have a Moto X phone and before that normal flip phones. Ive never "ruined" a phone because of moisture, it just doesn't happen.

You won't lose things out of your jersey pockets, it's just not an issue unless you're robbed.

I ride from my house or camp for all rides so keys stay at home (live in Maine, no locks). For wallet, I wrap a $20 around my driver's license and a credit card.

I ride from home most all the time as well. I just stick a cell phone in my seat bag (along with a spare tube, spoke wrench and $23). I leave the house unlocked, but taking a key wouldn't be much burden. I don't think I could cram my wallet in there, but if I trimmed it down to a sports wallet without much bulk it might fit.

I like that idea.

Personally, I leave my wallet in my car, wear a Road ID bracelet, keep my keys and a $20 in my saddle bag (medium-size Topeak), and mount my phone on my stem running the Strava app.

Thanks. I've carried my DIY photocopied laminated documents for a long time. I've also written contact info on the paper.

I have a mount for the phone but haven't tried Strava yet. I live at the bottom of a HUGE hill that I ride nearly everyday. I am conflicted as part of me wants to knows how much of a climb that it really is.... and part of me thinks I might be happier imagining that the hill is HUGE.

Seat bag is full of parts and tools. I have a little Bell front bag that holds the wallet, keys and a camera.

I don't carry my wallet with me, just put my ID, debit card, and some cash in my saddle bag.

Key could go in there too just make sure its not rubbing against your spare tubes.

The smallest binder clip with a Schrader adapter held captive by the handle. (those things always get lost! Clip and adapter stays on the tool kit flap when not in use)

Wrap a 20, 5 and 3 ones around my DL and insurance card and clip.

Put in small saddlebag on top of the toolkit, spare tube and CO2, or usually in the pocket of the Camelback.

House key on the clip in the Camelback or if it's a really short ride in the tool pouch.
