what's so special about brooks?

We ride around in tight, form fitting multi-colored garish clothing, and we worry about what people think the saddle we depend on to support our body weight comfortably for hours on end looks like?

I've been thinking alot about this for a while now.
Recently I went over to the dark side and bought a
San Marco Regal, you know the one that kinda looks like
a Brooks. I've got to admit its pretty comfortable, but
no way will it replace my B17.
Here's what I think is different (at least for me).
The top of the brooks is flat, the Regal is a rounded saddle
lower on the wings than in the center. What bothered me
about the regal was pressure (albeit not too great) on the
soft bits (perinium). I'm pretty sure that the difference in the
top is the cause. I know its counter intuitive that when the
brooks breaks in the area under the sit bones is lower but
I think the saddle just supports you better.
I'm thinking about the Team pro for a lighter, more
racer boy look.
I think I can finally say that I'm done with plastic shell saddles.

I tried Brooks B73 on my Half Way folder. It was very comfortable but if I ride hard it bounces so bad. I had to switched to Brooks Professional which is not as comfortable as the B73 but still much better than the original Giant saddle. I used to use the B73 for stoker on my tandem. The Professional is also from my old 10 speed bike. I am thinking of getting a new B66. Had any one tried the B66 on a folder?

I just bought a Brooks B 17 Champion Special for my Orbea.
One thing NO ONE has mentioned here is that the rails on the Brooks Saddles are short.
After I got the addle mounted, I felt like it was pushing me forward, so I went back to my LBS to have my seat position checked.
We went through every seatpost int the store (except for the $180.00 Look) to find one with enough setback. Ended up ordering one because he did not have one in stock that would put my seat back where the stock one had been (he had a post that would work, but the wrong diamater).
Not broken in yet and i would call it marginally better than the stock saddle, but I haven't been over three hours on it yet either.

Nonetheless, the saddle was much more comfortable than my original padded saddle.
Some Brooks mold themselves to you more quickly than others. The leather of the popular B17 is a bit thinner than some of the other saddles and breaks in a bit sooner.

don't they just look "old school" though? I just don't see them on a high performance bike, they would look out of place.

I've got about 100 miles on that Team Professional and am really starting to like it. It was about as comfortable as any other saddle out-of-the-box and seems to be getting better quickly.

i acquired an old brooks B15, used, from work at the beginning of the summer. i put it on one of my track bikes and it felt "okay" for about two weeks. then it felt great! bt now it's back to just "okay." not sure what it is, i think it might be too wide...also, there's a little metal bit under the leather that sorta digs into my perenium.
i think when i finally get my "gentleman's cruiser" built up, i'll put it on there and go back to either the kona OEM saddle i got from a friend or my mag. vetta trishock saddle that's on my trials bike.
