Do you jump obstacles on your road bike?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I remember having to do that while I was in Melbourne during the spring of '05. Living right on Swanston Street, I couldn't go anywhere without having to do the sideways hop to get over the tram tracks...

Bunnyhopping downed riders is also another essential skill if you've ever raced MTB or been in a fast moving snakeline while riding offroad. During some tight singletrack downhill sections, if a rider in front goes down, there's really no other way to avoid and contribute to a pileup. If you're the rider in front who has gone down you are wise to remain down rather than try to get up. Everyone learns that one early on.
