The new AWOL's first ride on gravel today. The bike was impressive. Love the way it rolls over the ruts and rocks, even with the "skinny" 40mm tires. Planning to put something closer to 2" on it soon as this bike is intended for the rougher side of the gravel spectrum. Great fit. Very nice feel when standing and climbing. Good, wide range of gearing from the 46/30 front, 12-36 rear. I'll got to try it on some thicker gravel, steeper hills and a few creek crossings next Sunday at the Fried Green 50 in Piedmont Wildlife Refuge out of Juliette, GA.

Bicycle Repair Man !!!
Celebrated my 50th by riding my Moulton which was most likely built in '65 for the '66 model year... I was built and delivered in '65.

59 old? I hope not.
Couldn't upload a pic for some reason but here's the link from the shop:
Specialized Tarmac Pro, 2014 ? Cycle Synergie - Synergy Cycle, Montréal, Pointe-Claire - Specialized - Cervélo - Santa Cruz - HED. - Assos - Vente et Service de Vélos
I didn't take the wheels though. Kept my HED Ardennes. Much better for Québec roads.

51 and now havin' FUN....
Recovering from a 22-year alcohol, tobacco and meth addiction at 42, my doc told me I had maybe 10 years to live. Before recovery, I was suffering from congestive heart failure(CHF), COPD and morbid obesity....all collateral damage, from those substances. Doc told me I need to engage in a dedicated workout program, if I can knock-out the CHF. Well, it took me 3 years after quitting everything, before I was cleared to ride a bike regularly. Fast-forward to now and I lost all 88 pounds of fat I was carrying for nearly 32 years. My waist went from a barrel-gut 44 to a 32 now. Always wanted to get into cycling....but was too busy chasing the dope. I do a century annually and regularly ride 5-hour+ trail epics now. Thanks to biking, I am now off all 8 meds. I plan on riding as long as I possibly can....![Smilie](https://www.bikeforums.net/images/smilies/smile.gif)

That a loaded question. What do you define as "old"? Why clump people into the same group based on your definition of "old"?

Whats wrong with old? No one said too old. Hey, the bike still fits at 64 so I'm happy to ride it, every day to work and the store, and my daughters' house and anywhere that doesn't absolutely require a car or train or plane.
My 1979 Raleigh Tourist and my Jamis Coda commuter.

We're old. Wear it proudly. Anyone can be young. It takes a tough SOB to get old.

Depends on your present company; my 16 year old daughter's friends think I'm "cool for an old man"(a badge I'm not sure how to take...) My contemps' are largely, well large and I feel way younger then most and not nearly as trapped inside my body as they. I've experienced a lot in my 55 years but still feel viable, have ideas and ideals, and, maybe most importantly, feel young on a bike...

68 times around the sun. Finally found a bike that doesn't hurt me when I ride, the Trek Shift.

Some of the best and most dedicated cyclists I know are former substance abusers. I dunno what it is ... obsessive/compulsive personalities?
In any case, the key is to turn that around and find something healthy and positive obsessive/compulsive about.
Congrats. You did just that.
