Due to the current weather pattern and my wife's new work schedule, my walks are way behind my average in distance, duration, and frequency.

Week of April 27 - 21.6 km walking
Week of May 4 - 20.7 km walking
I've eased back on the walking just a little bit because the combination of work and uni has left me feeling quite exhausted a couple days a week. Easing back has also given my arthritis a break.
As of Sunday 10 May, I have walked 350 km this year.
As for cycling, we were ramping up and did a 92 km ride on April 18, but then we decided to scale it back for the next few weeks after that. I'm almost at the end of the term with uni and things have been busy + Rowan has been really busy building a storage/workshop/home gym in our garage/basement ... trying to get it ready before we get too far into winter. And that's another thing ... winter came early! The weather has not been particularly nice the last few weekends.
So instead of increasing distance, we're working on shorter rides (40-50 km) that include lots of hills. Going for intensity rather than distance.

So busy lately ... not enough time for nice evening walks. However this week I walked between work and the university 3 times. That's a fairly lengthy hike. And between my allergist and work. And work and the library. And one evening, I got off the bus one stop further than usual so I could swing by the grocery store at the bottom of the road and get bananas on my way home.
One day last week, I hopped off the bus at the first stop in the city, got a CT scan done, then hiked all the way down close to where I work to get bloodwork done, then hiked to my Dr's office to drop off the scan ... and finally to work. I had a workout before the day even got going. (BTW - kidney stones)

I rode my bike around the neighborhood just for fun, havn't done that in a long time, went to the park and back a few times, probably only about three miles total but at 6 in the morning its quiet and there's little to no traffic and it was a nice way to clear my head after a stressful week. later tonight I'm going to go for a walk and meet my wife when she gets off work.

I rode my bicycle about 18 miles roundtrip toward my singing instructor's house and back home. I discovered some well-paved trails too. My leg muscles are getting used to the hills, and I'm not nearly as exhausted as I was when I started cycling last week. It was such a peaceful ride.

Sunday -- Rowan was busy today, with our basement/garage storage/sports room ... creating/building. And then doing a rather urgent repair to the van. No, he is not wearing gloves!
So we got away a little bit late, and decided to tackle one of the more challenging routes. We have ridden this route the other direction but this direction is steeper and pretty much a steady climb from home. We got 12.5 km up ... and then, as it was getting cooler and the sun was starting to go down ... and because my back was giving me some trouble ... we decided to turn around and go home.
Was the descent ever COLD!
When we started it was a chilly 10C, but it dropped to 8C by the time we turned around. And I see that the "feels like" temp with the humidity and little breeze was about 5C. Cycling down the mountain felt colder than that. I was seriously regretting my decision to leave off the polypro base layer!!
We do like the route. It's relatively quiet, and that's partially because of the stretch of gravel road. It has great views, and during the last few km, about the only other road users were on horseback. Except for the guy on the mtn bike who sailed past me, on the way up, like I was standing still!!
All up ... 25.5 km with 400 metres of climbing including lots of steep bits, the steepest reaching about 16.6%.

I started riding to 7 Eleven, then realized that item is probably available at any market. I could spend at a local independent business instead of a national chain. The market I thought of is closed on Sunday mornings. I went back to 7 Eleven.

I rode to work and back 8 miles each way. 70% chance of rain was the prediction. The roads were wet when I started for work, dry by the time I arrived there. Returning home after work, while climbing up the big hill, a woman on her bike going downhill shouted encouragement to me. But I worried about the SUV behind her. She needed to pedal faster and encourage me less. (In that stretch a bike should outdo a car because of the hill and twisty road.) I was half a block from home when it started to rain again. After getting home, I took a nap and awoke to a loud thunderstorm.

I rode to my singing instructor's house and back, which was about 16 miles each way. I discovered alternate paths, and I'm loving the trail I found. It's so nice to ride away from the din of motors.

90 miles through the rural towns next to mine. A cranberry bog, grass airfield, interesting cars.

May 25 ... I hit 400 km of walking ... and actually, I'm already up to 416 km.
We've had a couple good walks to the beach and back this week. Plus the usual ... uni, chiro, wandering about the shops, etc. etc.

I had a typically car heavy day. I put the bike in the truck and drove to someone who can't drive but has a car, drove him to a repair shop, drove his car to his home, then biked back to the repair shop and drove to my home.

Week of May 11 - 25.1 km of walking
Week of May 18 - 19.55 km of walking
Week of May 25 - 34.2 km of walking
Plus cycling on the weekends.
This past weekend we went to an agricultural show in a nearby small town, parked the van on the outskirts of town and walked from one end of town to the other taking in a couple venues and a couple small cafes.
Most of the rest of the walking has been the usual utility walking with a few recreational beach walks thrown in for good measure.

Walking or cycling?
We are hoping to do a cycling century sometime soonish.
As for walking ... I do toy with the idea of walking a half marathon or something now and then.

I am temporarily carfree again, since I delivered my truck to someone else who needs car repairs. On the ride home from that I found a dime on the road.

Going to work, I was the smartest person on the bus today. I had my bike on the rack because the bus usually drops me off at the top of a cool hill and I ride the final mile and a half to work on my bike.
Today, the bus broke down. It was overheating and stalled half way to work. Everyone else was stuck. I just got my bike off the bus and rode on.

Yesterday we just walked down to the beach and back.
I didn't take any photos on Saturday's ride ... too busy riding ... but here's a shot of our Bike Fridays on another day, near home, at the beach where we walked yesterday and have walked many evenings.

Short utility walks on Tuesday ... and then a much longer utility walk on Wednesday.
Wednesday's was my usual commute walk + a brisk walk back from the university to work after writing my final exam for my first grad course. I felt energetic then ... or maybe it was the 2 hours of intense writing that inspired my need to get up and move for a bit.
