i've never ridden in the snow. i can't imagine how you keep from slipping through turns. most of these bikes look like they have regular tires on them.

I'm a bit to surprised to see how many bikes are brakeless in this thread. I have nothing at all against riding brakeless, but I figured most people would add one during the winter months. Does anyone who normally rides without a brake do this? For those that don't, do you have an actual reason not to or are you just so used to not having one that you just don't bother? Just curious.
I REALLY don't want this to turn in to an argument for or against brakes, as I said, I couldn't care less either way, I was just a little bit surprised and curious.

I ride brakeless, but in the winter months I put a front brake on. Still use my legs 90% of the time but if the conditions are truly bad I rely on a combination of legs and brake.

I sure as hell wouldnt know.. ok maybe I do, and thats why I don't bother. I should take a picture of my bike you'd love it? Soooo filthy, never cleaned it yet this year.
I don't ride a brake in snow either, and use normal slick 23c's.. haven't had many problems, its really not as hard as one might think, one minor skid this year so far on black ice, but I coulda been on anything and I woulda still went down. Im only pushing 46/16 and my commute is only 10 minutes at the most so I don't feel im at much risk of getting into a situation where I feel I'd need it.

I don't ride in the snow; I ride on the road, where there isn't snow. The only times I slip are when I try the MUP to see if it's clear, and invariably find it isn't. I really need to stop trying it, and just stick to the road.

i just started riding fixed this summer. after two weeks and only two or three slight squeezes of the lever i took the brake off. as soon as the white stuff started falling the brake went back on. there are some fairly sizable hills on my daily commute, and red lights at the bottom. i'll take everything (light, grips, brake) back off my bars in the spring.

may be, but you can ride your bike hard and have your tape wrapped right. that's right, you fail at life, should give up cycling, and burn your bike.

I don't know but I find I hardly use the brakes at all during the winter. I leave them on but do most of my braking through skidding when it gets snowy.
Oh and my new winter bike to keep up the photo thing:
