Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I'm confused, do Serious cyclists wave to other cyclists or not?

I do like the idea of a seat cover, if only to get a reaction from the wife.

Shoot - that top is the hill climbing bike. It is 2-3cm higher than the bottom.

What's more serious - lattes, Americanos or straight shots of espresso?

I'd like to know more about seriousness offsets.

Like if I don't shave my legs, but I also don't have a potbelly, am I a serious cyclist or not? Feeling pretty confused so far.

Espresso.

Macchiato if you must, but if your cup is less than 75% coffee, I don't want to know you.

Shaved legs were mentioned. I don't think it's applicable. If it were, all women with bicycles would be serious cyclists, and then there's this...

Sagan is obviously a Serious Cyclist paradox and can not be used as a measure.

Good point. He doesn't even have a Brooks saddle.

^ ^ ^

Look at this Fred wearing pro kit on a fancy S-Works with his hairy legs. He's nowhere near skinny enough to be a Serious Cyclist, what a poseur!

Serious cyclists can easily be identified the same way as vegetarians.

How do you know if someone is a serious cyclist?

Don't worry, they'll let you know as soon as they can.

Lol - that diagram is pretty funny, but in fairness, that's not a real latte - it's a Sbux (or the like) monstrosity. I have some coffee snobbishness in me, but one of my old customers was way worse. When a barrista would ask if he wanted his drink in a to-go cup, he'd tell them, "well, if you're going to put it in a paper cup for me, you might as well just toss it straight in the garbage for me, too."

Actually, someone who follows the rules is a complete noob and are very easy to spot. Someone who doesn't follow the rules ("they're supposed to be satire") is also not a serious cyclist and can be dismissed.

The real trick with the rules is to know that only some must be followed religiously while the rest are completely satirical. Only a truely serious cyclist knows which is which.

You can't really tell by this pic but when I saw Sagan at last year's Tour of California his legs were looking pretty slick to me. I'd guess he qualifies as a serious cyclist. But one that does not take himself too seriously--that's key.

If the only pro cyclist they talk about is Sagan then they are not serious cyclists. If they are trying to tell you about Van Keirsbulck's win in Le Samym, then they probably mean business.

The H3+ is a clincher wheel.

Now he is not only "not serious" he's no longer an elite level rider. @Dave Mayer

Well, you have to spell it right first: Le Samyn. Does this constitute a fify? I'm giddy--my first! Where is Indy?

If Tony Martin can win the World TT Championship on clinchers, imagine what he could do if he took the sport seriously.

Right! It's like the F1 fan who can only talk about Schumacher.

Come at me with your stats on Ricardo Rosset's '98 season with Tyrell, bro.
