What about cross-chaining on a C&V bike with a modern drivetrain?

Another C&V pet peeve that I'll pretend to be indignant about, although I don't actually care one way or another... bibs and shorts that reach almost to the knee.

Real C&V men wear short shorts.

And having stick legs, I have no choice anyway. Longer length shorts and bibs ride up on my pencil legs anyway. Might as well wear 'em short to begin with.

Also, I rarely wear proper length socks. Usually just anklets. In winter I'll sometimes wear knee-high compression socks. I am always fashionably unhip.

Pretty sure the longer "shorts" are also at least partially about the compression aspect, like the socks you sometimes wear.

And like you I am perpetually unhip, I wear longish bike shorts for all riding, underneath Chrome, Castelli, Dickies, EB, PI, Fox, Oakley, Adidas, etc. touring, casual utility, etc, shorts.

Pet peeves
1) people thinking steel frames are heavier, and slower than aluminum (weight) and carbon (speed), when it depends on a lot more factors

2) work funds bikes, but right now after my company being acquired, work get's in the way of riding, specifically commuting....peeve part is I need to get up a lot earlier in the morning to commute (if I don't have a 6 or 6:30 or 7 meeting.... to get in for a daily 7:30 meeting)

3) conflicts for weekend rides (family, seakayaking) again to large degree can be reduced by getting up early

4) I am not a get up early person

5) people who don't understand form follows function for bike specific clothing....... I am glad they can ride a 100 miles in Levi's..... I sure can't

OK now, I remembered one of my recent pet peeves. Helmet straps that aren't sewn together right at the factory, so that you're likely to lose half of the plastic clasp thingy, that keeps it attached. 🙄

1X drivetrains are 'da bomb. I don't ride anything else now that I've done a few. So much cleaner and simpler. I mean seriously, who needs more than 10-12 gears?! Get real. I run DA 7800/7900 DT shifters which gives me 10 speeds in back - pretty much just what these bikes had when original. Not sure why anyone would hate on that.. don't knock it till you've tried it!
