Read an article in the paper today that partially blames chain-smoking pregnant mothers of the 50's for the obesity epidemic of today.
Back then moms were even encouraged to smoke in order to limit their weight gain while pregnant. Often they ended up gaining much less weight than they should have and the babies didn't get enough nourishment. This caused the babies to eat too much once they were born. Making things worse was that fact that mothers of the 50s typically bottle fed. This meant there was no natural limit on the babies' food intake.
Not sure how much I buy it.

Are people seriously concerned that riding behind someone who has a lit cigarette is going to negatively impact their health? That's ridiculous. Unless you are standing right next to someone who is smoking, and have your head suspended over their cigarette hand, you are not inhaling any significant amount of smoke. Compared to standing at red lights for several minutes at a time surrounded by large fossil fuel burning engines the draft from a single cigarette 10-15 feet away while moving at double digit wind speeds is less than negligible. Seriously...complaining about that just comes across as whiny. Environmental issues are another story...but again...cigarettes produce a negligible amount of greenhouses gases in the big picture. In fact...isn't the burning of naturally grown organic matter carbon neutral? I think something along the lines that the plant is only releasing the amount of carbon that it fixed throughout it's life (or something like that. I could be wrong).

I haven't smoked a cigarette in 21 years, but have been cycling for 40 out of love for the sport not to defy anything. I will still enjoy a pipe or cigar after a day in the saddle. FYI most life and health insurance companies rate pipe&cigar smokers the same or similarly as non smokers, they are the ones who live by the stats, not advocating, just sayin'.

It goes on and on. You can contract cancer in practically every portion of the human body from this stuff. We already have far too many carcinogens within our environment.
Let's just start cleaning up our global act, collectively...Please!
The time to be defiant about the condition of our global environment is yesterday!
My grandfather smoked non-filter Pall Malls and rode his 1spd beach cruiser everywhere. When he retired, he'd get up every morning and ride 5 miles up and down the boardwalk, cigarette in his mouth the entire time.
He had one of his lungs removed (he was in his late 70s) and cut back to 1.5 packs a day from his usual 3 on the logic that he only had half as many lungs, so he could only smoke half as many cigarettes. He lived for another 10 years.

When you see me on my bike or usually just getting off of it and smoking, please keep in mind that I am not cycling, biking, racing or training. I'm just going to work, or the grocery store, pub etc.

I don't know, lighter, cover hole, both hands off wheel, could lead to problems. Lets talk about beers and pedaling.

As a cyclist, you are bound to unite with all of the other world cyclists, so that we may make conditions for future cyclists more tolerable! We must send a message to all of the world leaders. We must send a message to all of the world's countries. We must send a message to the UN. We must send a message to all the unions in the world that represent the world's cycling workers. We must send a message to all of the energy producing companies. We must send a message to all of the manufacturers of the world, today!
We must all ban together and unite as one commited political body of cyclists, as we peacefully demand better working conditions, more bike lanes, and more comprehensive health insurance advocated by the World Health Organization!
Yeah! That's right! Advocated by WHO!

The philosopher Bertrand Russell credited pipe-smoking with saving his life on one occasion. He was flying in an airplane which crashed while making a water landing. He was able to get out sooner due to being in the smoking section.

onboard bbq lighter strapped in place, bowl facing you, base mounted to the top of the stem, and have a hand carb with a brake caliper, second brake lever on left side for clearing , that just leaves needing the bong to be adjustable tube, so you can angle it down for regular riding.

Actually, he might not have. Living longer means using up more resources from all the extra time on earth. Pollution from commuting, food delivery from around the world, oil, water, increased CO2 production, more waste, over population, etc etc. So if we all die a little sooner; we'll help the planet even more by just getting out of the way.
So help out mother nature, smoke up and die quick!
