My wife thinks I need a longer stem. I'm not sure about the saddle angle. I'm using an aliante and was dead flat from the notch (not the back of the saddle) but started to run into some perineum issues and angled it down ever so lightly. I may be better off with a different saddle. Fitters tend to want to push my saddle back and up, which feels inherently misguided to my body. Of course I may just have an injury and this may just be the way things are.

All these kids stories reminds me of one with my oldest son.

He was probably 3 at the time and had a little push car that he would tear around the house in. It had a plastic back rest that you could pull out. We were playing around the house where he would go tearing by me and I would grab at the bar and pull him up. He was having a grand time until I timed my pull with his push forward and he went ass over tee kettle and smashed his face into the front of the car. There was blood everywhere, crunched up baby teeth...It was not a pretty site...My wife (wife #1) was ready to kill me!

I felt so bad that day...

For the next few years he had all kinds of problem with his teeth until they fell out and then his adult teeth came in all crooked. Ended up spending $5000 on braces with he was 12....

By the time he started HS the braces were gone and he had perfectly straight pearly whites...

That boy did so much damage to his face...Fell down stairs, fell off a snow fort, face first into a curb when skateboarding and a few mountain bike wipe outs...Actually surprised he can count to 2

In the end he's turned a-ok!

Yeah, I use my short-term disability ins when my appendix ruptured in February. I was very happy to be able to retain vacation benefits for the year, on top of medical coverage. Still cost a lot of cash, but much better than no ins.

I went back to my surgeon today to investigate my persistent abdominal pain. He thinks it's 1:1,000,000 that I've got an abscess still without other symptoms, but he wants to rule it out. So I'll be going in for another CT scan probably tomorrow.

I love the SLR and it is now angled downward by about a 1/4" off the back (not the notch). I also found that the switch from the 120 to the 130 made a nice difference though fighting to keep the rear wheel stable while sprinting - just need to work of power delivery a little. I have a long torso and shorter (32" inseam) legs and up and back does not suit my comfort zone.

One particularly bad day I managed to drop both kids on the floor pretty hard. That's one bad part of having twins.

I'm saving the '93 Civic VX for him. 92 HP, 286k mi. It'll be great for a first car.

Yikes, just looked up the UMD bit. Crazy. Flatting on a downhill is a fear of mine. We regularly go 50+ around here. Fortunately we don't have the hairpin corners that you California folks have to negotiate.

My life insurance premium is pretty reasonable.

Buddy at work was carrying his daughter, she had a stomach virus, she chucked and he slipped...He contorted himself going down to not land on her and protect her...He ended up breaking his hip...

Off work for 6-8wks...Too birds with one stone here...A kid story and an insurance example

Do I get a prize??

DO ALL OF YOU HAVE SHORT TERM DISABILITY AND LONG TERM DISABILITY INSURANCE????

If not and it's available at work sign up at OE. Some employers may be nice and let you sign up off cycle, but don't count on it. A good plan can save your ass if you're in a serious accident.

If your employer doesn't have it look at getting it on the open market. Especially the Short Term. If you have questions about how it works or what's good let me know.
USAC offers some type of insurance. Has anyone looked into it ? My employer's plan really sucks.

I signed up for it a while back, but it's confusing.. you get a piece of paper that says you are "covered" by it, but at the bottom of the page it says "THIS IS NOT INSURANCE"... luckily I never had to use it. So not sure what the deal is there. I know they market it as "insurance" but I think it's more supplemental than an actual primary policy or whatever. Very confusing..

Off to take the driving test! I hear they'll ding you for not using a blinker when backing around a corner, gotta remember that one.

My new bike has an Aliante and so far I like it and I have had perineum issues and used cut-out saddles before.
Of course, I haven't spent 8 hours in a day on it yet, still don't have the gearing and fit sorted out. Makes me just want to ride the old bike.

I had a fit a few months ago. We moved my saddle forward, put on a shorter stem (110 to 100) and raised my bars a bit.

Since then, I have not been suffering from any hip pains, which is nice.

I used the usac insurance when I crashed in 2010. It acted as supplemental insurance and I got a few thousand dollars out of it.

So I have this fear of dropping the baby.
I think you're probably okay. When I was about two and a half, my uncle was pushing me on my tricycle and my foot got caught between the crank and the wheel. Broke my leg. My uncle felt so bad, he carried me on his shoulders all over the place. One day, he's walking our dog, and I'm perched on his shoulder, my little leg in a cast. Gus sees another dog and lunges after it. My uncle is pulled forward by the leash and I go spinning back off his shoulders and land on my face in the street. Concussion, huge black eye to match my cast. I guess it didn't hurt me too much in the long run--I managed to do okay despite bouncing off the street.

Moral of the story: we're pretty tough, and if we make it puberty without a few scars, there is something wrong somewhere.

He, on the other hand had gone down head first, separated a shoulder and cracked a vertebra. Two days in the hospital.

At her weight, she would have maybe needed an ice pack from that fall by herself. At his weight, he could have come out paralyzed.

the aliante has a lip on the back

there's a little notch in the center of the saddle right where the lip begins to rise

one theory is that with the saddle angled (ever so slightly- less than a degree) my hips are rotating and causing the issue. But with this particular saddle level my tendency to slide forward when on the rivet exasperates the contour into my place where one doesn't want a contour exasperated.

Good luck with the apdx WR.

Here's a good link on the topic...she had to do a ton of legwork but it came out to her benefit.
https://303cycling.com/who-picks-up-t...n-a-bike-crash

From within...

"Of course now that CO is governed by USAC, the ACA insurance is gone and all CO riders are covered under the USAC insurance (K&K) discussed above.

Final amounts billed by my providers: over $54,000. This is why riders MUST either have good health insurance OR have $5k saved up to cover the deductible so that USAC insurance will kick in. Otherwise you personally will be on the hook for the majority of the billed amounts.

USAC insurance (K&K) certainly helped by covering 70% of the portion of the bills I would have been responsible for. (my final out of pocket expenses were under $5k) ... All riders have this coverage available to them each time you enter a race, so there's no reason why you WOULDN'T pursue this coverage if you're hurt at a race.

However I had quite a time getting them to timely pay their portion of my bills. In fact, they sat on my ER hospital bill for over 4 months which resulted in the hospital sending me to collections. My insurance covered all but the $100 copay, so K&K owed $70 - I'd already sent in my $30 portion. And sure enough as we were refinancing our home, my credit report revealed that K&K had not yet paid their portion to the hospital so there was a collections mark on my credit until K&K finally mailed their payment in. These types of hiccups were typical of this entire process. That's why the rider must maintain good control and organization over their records and documents.

The bottom line and takeaway message I'd like racers to have is to be sure you protect yourself from massive debt and possible bankruptcy if you are injured in a bike race. The risks are high and chances of crashing are, sadly, pretty likely in this sport. Please be sure you get health insurance with a relatively low deductible, or (if you don't have insurance), that you can pay the first $5k of your bills so that USAC's insurer will kick in and help you pick up 70% of your remaining bills."

Couldn't find my good floor pump. The other day my SIL wanted to borrow a pump and I said that she could borrow my older, cheap one.

I did find that one very close to where I keep my good one.

I'm not amused.

got it. government provided as part of our public health system. comes out of our taxes. possibly a similar scheme to canada's public health system.
