The OP shouldn't project his riding goals & motivations onto people who live a different lifestyle than he does and; predicated on the logical fallacy that the act of smoking precludes any physical, environmental, or social benefits one enjoys on the individual level. The assumption of hypocrisy simply doesn't hold up to the reality of who cycles/why.

I will also insist that nobody expels waste in the same in which I'm swimming. Smoking, involves us all! Just because, you can't smell it, doesn't mean that it's not affecting you. Our environment is already overburden with pollutants. There should be a collective global agenda that speaks to the social activities that benefit us all, and not risk, jeopardize, or sacrifice the health of the majority for the stupid benefits of the few. Once again, smoking is just plain stupid. There's simply is no defense for it at all!

I'm calling you out on an off topic rant badly framed as a context-appropriate topic for an unrelated forum.
I think the level of economic exploitation that goes into producing carbon frames for consumer markets is socially indefensible, for instance, but you don't see me imposing that view on your commuting forum. It would be nonsensically out of place, needlessly offensive, and in all likelihood only half-informed - much like the topic at hand.

I'd never defend smoking, in my life.

Are you saying that after having done that, I have no right to express my opinion about it, whether it offends or not?
Just what are you saying here, Cranky?

Your adjectives pale in the face of the stark reality of what smoking really is... To put it more simply. Smoking is just plain stupid! I think most smokers would agree with me when I say this, because that's who I hear it from for the most part.
Now, if you think that smoking has some type of meritous, noble, or redeemable characteristics, then I would dare say that you sir, are incredibly delusional. Furthermore, that being the case, your views are not only void of truth and scientific fact, they are also dim-witted and symptomatic of the type of ignorance that I personally find quite intolerably repugnant.
Have A Nice Day!
PS.
Thanks for quitting...

That's only because, too many of us... smoke!
Bet cha couldn't smoke me! I'll beat your Giant FCR or your Specialized Allez any day of the week, with my thirty-year old Nishiki Sebring!
I'm most probably close to twice your age, too!
Looking for a butt dustin', are ya?.... I'm your Huckleberry!
I'll smoke you like the sausage ya ate for breakfast ya little whipper snapper you!
Don't come over here blowin' your smoke, ya little tadpole, you!

So what are you saying here? ...Are you saying that I don't have the right to notice something noteworthy within my environment and then bring attention to it within the cycling community?
Are you saying that after having done that, I have no right to express my opinion about it, whether it offends or not?
Just what are you saying here, Cranky?

Further, as you can see in my initial rant, INDIVIDUALS who bike are still improving their health and decreasing their pollution footprint as an INDIVIDUAL. Just like you.
Being a cyclist doesn't give you a position to insult smokers. Being a smoker does not discount someone from being a cyclist. Value judgments about the personal character of smokers have no place on a forum specifically about cycling.
Its enough to make me want to drop you on the first mile, just to prove you wrong. And in my experience, as a former smoker, I'd have a pretty good chance either way.

Obesity increases risk of cancer --> Cycling reduces obesity. Increased risk of cancer due to smoking + decreased risk of cancer due to cycling = equilibrium. Also, nobody has mentioned chew. I really don't wanna ride behind that dude.

You don't know WHY someone cycles other than the given "commuting to work", so you have no place calling them ironic or hypocrits. Nobody is trying to be you (as far as I know). They are accomplishing the goal of commuting to work, and cycling. Just like you.
Further, as you can see in my initial rant, INDIVIDUALS who bike are still improving their health and decreasing their pollution footprint as an INDIVIDUAL. Just like you.

You've got true grit!
However, you've smoked too long to take me! I'm a true vet at cycling...
Have A Nice Day, My Friend!

It would appear as though the MTB traditions live on as their hippie inventors who initiated it all, would have wanted to be....
