Will Dave Z's Skinsuit Remain Legal?

It forms a fairing between his upper arms and chest/lats area. It looks like he's wearing a few sizes small but I think this is by design. The sides become a smooth and flat area below his armpits. Looks like an aero advantage to me.

Hard to find pics. It was easier to see in the video broadcast.

It wasn't legal last year.

if it's anything like the skinsuit that he, and danielson, had last year, then they're giving the UCI the middle finger.

more likely to ding the guys who stuff camelbacks down the front or back of their suits.

It's not. No tube fairings on Zabriskie's skinsuit.

If you're talking about the one where he's out of the saddle, it's the suit stretching and if anything makes him slower.

Perhaps is some sort of marketing ploy...Red Bull gives you Wings...POM gives you Fairings...

More noticeable when he's on the bullhorns:

Maybe he just has really short arms.

Most of these suits are paint-ons and designed to ride in the aero position. Mine feels horrible in anything other than that.

This is what I'm talking about. Member longbeachgary uploaded a bunch of shots to photobucket. Compare Dave's suit to the others.

If that isn't by design, it is a terrible fit. I have several different skinsuits and they don't do that. Even the ones that are too small.

Either way it looks stupid. I think it's fit.

Wouldn't it help if it did the fairing thing behind the arms, but stuck to the chest in front? On the horns, it's pretty clearly screwing things up, but if there was a side shot of him in the bars, I'm thinking that it would fare his arms pretty effectively, and those frontal shots in the bars look fine to me.

It might, but I think it would be contingent on how much air was passing between his arm/shoulders/helmet. That air needs an escape route, otherwise it's going to slow him down. The "fairing" could smooth the flow in that area or it could "cow catcher" air trying to pass through.

Yeah, that makes sense. I'm just thinking of the two vertical cylinders (upper arm) and how crappy the aerodynamics are with that shape. Blend it through with a non-fluttering tense fabric on the triceps, and it could help. My thinking is that he's been in a tunnel with that suit. Of course, he's a complete goofball too, so it could be lots of things.

I've been thinking about some inflatable calf implants for fairings.

Oh, and I guess the verb would be "fair," not "fare." Looks weird to me, but most things do.

Looks like the tension across the chest might also help in maintaining the "elbows-together" aero position? Sort of like having a big rubber band around both arms.
