If "mountain bikes are restricted to designated roads and trails," does that mean that gravel bikes can ride wherever they want to??? ;-)

Rail trail 5 Km from home
Calling for a bit of snow tonight, had to get out today
Walked the bike around the muddy bogs to preserve the trails
Surprised at how well the Toughroad plays in the rough

Today a couple dozen like minded cyclists and I did a North Georgia mixed surface ride.
Mud pits, fresh one inch aggregate on 15% grades, concrete barriers, stream crossings, abandoned forest service roads, a sustained mountain climb at mile 69 - 110 miles and 11,000 ft climbing total. This was the most climbing I've done in one day by a good margin.
Georgia wine country
The descent off Burnt Mountain. I hit 51+ MPH.
Didn't help at all.
One of the more bucolic moments...
Stretching the legs late in the ride on a relatively tame section of doubletrack on the perimeter of the Rich Mountain Wilderness.

Rode Central Arizona Project gravel yesterday. The CAP is lined on both sides by immaculately graded dirt but said dirt is fenced off. Luckily, in town, most of the way there's some kind of gravel running alongside the fence. Occasional sections of rough Jeep trail to keep you on your toes.

Got my new to me Surly Cross Check out for its first real “adventure ride”. Been limited to asphalt so far. Stopped by the local co-op on the way. Picked up a seat post with more setback and a great tailbag. Both much better.
Rode oil field asphalt, gravel, sandy trails. Pretty much what this all arounder was meant for. Combination of nice steel frame and 700c 41mm tires made for a great ride. A good day on an excellent bike....

This is a mixed use hardpack/gravel bridal path that leads into the largest park in the city which is then an entry way to all the gravel roads south and southwest of the metro.
The entire park surrounding area flooded a month ago during the thaw and this is some of the damage. It's a half mile from the river and the flooding went another half mile past this.
The flooding managed to expose some crazy rock under all the packed up dirt/silt/gravel.
And this gutted out sinkhole formation is about 20' long and 3' deep.
The most frustrating part of all this is knowing flooding in this area is expected to increase in frequency over the coming years.

Pics from my ride last week. It figures my last ride before a long vacation I hit the dirt, but whatever. I love riding and the challenges it presents along the way. Even when I run out of talent.

That park you ride in Bryan reminds me of the Shire from Lord of the Rings. I expect to see Hobbits walking around.

Even the Turkeys are wondering where the sun is. Calling for possible snow Sunday morning just in time for the Paris to Ancaster race

Today I took a photo of a fly.
There are a couple other things in the image, like Mount Pilchuck and the South Fork Stillaguamish river valley.

Nice.
Maybe it's a pterodactyl about to perch on the mountain.
Are those people at the top of the road?

Yeah, those are the other guys I was riding with. It's a logging road, and I was standing at the spot it ends. They're standing at the spot where the view first opened up.
See the roads on the side of the mountain? According to local myth and legend, there might be an extant connection between them and the road network that I took the photo from. It probably doesn't exist, but if it does, it would open up some compelling route opportunities.
