Well here's a thread to keep one warm in the snowy months! Unbelievable bikes here. I think the combo of 9 speed record, a flite saddle and a nice steel frame is the high point in racing bike estethics. With carbon, fat cranks and wonky hood shapes all pretiness went out the window.

I like Campagnolo 8 speed, it is still classic (polished aluminium) and shifts good.
Here are my 2 bike with Campagnolo 8 speed.

My Duell, I bought this one in February 1992.
First generation Ergopower, mix of Record, Chorus and Croce d'aune.

And my Gazelle, made in 1983, bought 6 years NOS. Because I use this one for touring and randoneuring, it is equipped with lights, mudguards and lights.. It is a complete mix of components.
I hope to ride (and finish) London-Edinburgh-London on this bike this year.

Yes, the colours were flipped for the 1995 season. Mine was ridden by Olaf Ludwig. I don't know which tubing the frame is made from because there is no sticker but yeah, the fork is what you would see on a Leader so it is probably MAX or MXL. Ludwig was a big guy and a sprinter, maybe the frame is SP or something similarly sturdy. It rides nicely, here is how I received it:

That chainset on 7700 is so very, very nice.
I would agree, I have that gruppo on my Colnago, talk about smooth shifting.

I have 7700 on my Merlin and, while smooth, I still prefer Ergos. Ergos definitely have better front trim and I prefer the shifting mechanism. Also - if you have a problem with the internals of 7700, you're buying new shifters on eBay...and they're PRICEY.

As far as aesthetics, 7700 is definitely a bright spot in Shimano's history.

Highly sought after for cross racing in the midwest.

I've seen these last for 2-3 cyclocross seasons loaded up with mud, snow, ice etc.

Tough little buggers.

Wash 'em with wd40 and send them on their way.

When they fail?

Throw them away and use 105s.

They stay on the bars when you crash on a steeplechase.

You know, Campy still made 8spd downtube shifters as well. Despite the horror stories that I've read here, my Syncro II setup is buttery smooth.

I got this one with Chorus 8spd and a full race setup

It now has Record Ti 9spd.

Wow - this is a timely thread for me. Over the weekend, I did a shake down ride on my Merckx Corsa Extra that I just outfitted with 8 speed Record Ergo. It was sublime. I recently got a like-new 8 speed Record Ergo group that I am going to put on my MXL to replace the DA 7400 STI group. The Record Ergo just hits the spot for me. Great bikes in this thread!

I'm keeping the headset and cassette. Gonna use one of those spacer kits so I can use my DA wheels with the Campy drivetrain. If you need anything else, contact me, as I will be letting it go soon.

That certainly looks like a MAX fork but the tubes look round to me, maybe EL or EL OS?

My 2002 Davidson in the sunshine of Phoenix - and working better than ever after tuning the drivetrain with roadrunner2012 yesterday

Looks like my ghost-shifting under load in the last three/four climbing gears has finally been solved. Dish was off by around 1/16" so he rectified that, but not before some tweaking the tension in the RD cable.

Thanks, John - super job!

Dang... my only Campy equipped bike is a 7 speed and a mutt at that.

Will just have to sit back and live vicariously through everyone else's bikes.
