1951: Hugo Koblet, Switzerland.

1951 was the only time he won the tour. In fact it was the only time he finished the race.

After 1951 he began to decline and it was written that Koblet began to suffer in the mountains at 2,000m, then 1,500, then at 1,000 until "we saw him unable to ride over the smallest hill."

Based on this assessment, he is an appropriate hero for me... lol.

1959 - The race was won by Spanish cyclist Federico Bahamontes, who also won the mountains classification. First win by a Spanish cyclist.

Cycling is not a legitimate sport anymore. Other sports, they all use drugs or dope or ?? and I do not see their titles stripped or their leagues banned or hounded by fans and politician. But in cycling, a sport no more polluted with drugs and doping than any pro sport, it was decided one person, an American at that, should be the sin eater for the whole bunch. I have no care of who won the euro centric club pretend race. These events have more in common with professional wrestling than an athletic sport.
