Yes, one peice...and they are even more ugly and scary up close. I was really surprised when I found the 3ttt stamp after I unwrapped them. The finish on them looks like galvized electrical conduit.

Before (£10 on ebay)

After a little clean-up and TLC
Notice the Campy chain-wheel, Chater Lea pedals, Brooks Champion, etc.

The original owner, on a demonstration at the Royal Albert Hall, London in 1967 on the same machine.

How cool?
Just needed a rescue.

This was a fine machine and I always regretted selling it.
I didn't know better. Then.

When did he get the bike repainted?

Previous owner had it repainted in c1970.
He used to do 2/3/4,000 miles a year on it and many parts were replaced over time.
He had some spectacular crashes on European mountain jaunts.
A proper cyclist (which I'm not!).
But he kept it close to original.
A lovely guy, now retired and is currently selling cactus seeds on ebay!!!!

Lots of nice shiny bits from Velo-Orange. Honjo 43mm Hammered, fluted fenders, Nitto M12 front rack. Tektro aero levers and lots and lots of polishing.

So, what do you think?

now that I really dig! Nice job. I assume you're not flipping this one right? Say no now please..

It sounds like we need to have a nice little vintage tour in the spring...

Thanks very much! Yes, I'm keeping this one. It's my size and has a silky smooth ride. I really like this bike a lot, she's a keeper.

And, yes, a spring vintage tour sounds grand! Maybe a nice ride down to the city on the Schuylkill river trail.

WOW - besides everything I've mentioned before, nice job on that pie-plate paint matchup!

Thanks Kurt!
Now I'm thinking about changing those big 26 x 1 3/4 x 2 (54-571) tires. The originals were probably 26 x 1 5/8 x 1 1/2 (40-571) but they are hard to find. 40-584 are available, but they won't fit. So I could:
a) change rims to 584 and use 26 x 1 1/2 (40-584)
b) change rims to 635 and use 28 x 1 1/2 tires, which are available and I'd prefer. But I'm not sure about it because clearance would be very tight and probably brake blocks will need an adapter plate
c) leave it as is
A local LBS has a deposit with some old stuff in it. I'll try that...

Well, I checked the Schwalbe site (great source for oddball tire sizes, particularly for folders) - nothing for 571's except some fancy 23-571's. There are the Schwinn S7's which are 571's but medium-sized just the same. Frankly, I'd keep it at option C for the sake of originality, but I realize you wish to ride the machine and don't care for the balloon tires.

That said, I would gradually work my way to option B, but not until I could source out all the rod brake parts to do the job...preferably, an entire DL-1 parts bike (22" variant ideal for the shorter front stirrup). I wouldn't worry one bit about tight tire clearances. Shouldn't be any different then standard DL-1 clearance.

Take care,

-Kurt

Everyone should have at least one pink bike, hehe. Picked up this pink 1987 Schwinn Prelude last week. Shimano light action wasn't going to cut it, and can brighten up a flipper bike. I grabbed some 105 out of the stash and polished it up. Rims came from the Shogun that I put the hybrid wheels on. New Daeda light grey wrap to match the saddle, Sakae Modolo bend bars. I couldn't find the 105 FD, so a 600 tricolor went on until I can find another. Rides like a dream, and looks good to me.,,,,BD

Nice work as always BD. You make me almost like pink.

It looks like the caps are missing doesn't it? They're actually allen bolts from the donor bike, and they're a bit on the rusty side. I need to pick a new set.,,,,,BD

Thanks for the compliments. Weird thing is, I liked the color the second I saw it in person. The black/gray Racelites just make it pop that much more.

Good show on replacing the SR Custom stem with an older SR. The former just doesn't look right.

This nice little Pug got new cables, bartape, Shimano 105 aero brake levers, Shimano side pulls, and a good polishing. I had a similar one earlier this year that got the same treatment. Here it is:
