What you pack is a personal thing. 50 is not too heavy or too light. My pack is heavier than that, 70 for winter. That's excessive for some (see, personal). I've trimmed it down to that, and I now return home not regretting the load. You just have to start somewhere and discover by doing. Shakedowns are good.
