What’s inside your LBS?
Those local shops that choose to display a bit of C&V eye candy... Let’s see what’s inside your bike shop!
Here’s a couple from my preferred shop. A small campus bike shop, and owner operated team of three, in business for approximately 30 years...
The Dawes might be for sale, though it doesn’t have a tag on it. I didn’t inquire. The Medici however, is certainly the mechanic’s personal baby.

I've been to that shop last summer. Nice folks. Was looking at the medici. That's definitely the kind of gearing I would need in eugene. Couldn't believe how hilly it was just outside of town. No way I could make it around there on my vintage setups (42x28).
There's another shop in eugene that had an old paramount hanging up. While looking at it, one of the employees asked if we needed any help, and I said we're into vintage stuff. He laughed sarcastically and said, "you won't find any of that here."

As far as the Paramount goes, I know the one. Purple, on the smallish side, and with a full record group. I'll try to snap a pic next time I'm passing by. That was an interesting response the employee made. It kind of points at one of the reasons I rarely visit em'.

My go-to LBS ia always happy to help me, but their interest in C&V is quite limited. They know where the money is. If they take a bike in trade that's made of steel 
they usually try to sell it to me. And more often than not they succeed.

They didn’t have that FR-1 freewheel remover I needed. Told them I needed to remove a Dura Ace freewheel, and asked if they had a FR-1 in stock. They asked, “are you sure it’s a freewheel, and not a cassette?” I said, “yep, it’s a freewheel.” To which they replied, “does it thread on, or does it slide on to the hub?” I answered, “It threads on. It’s a thread on Dura Ace freewheel,” and asked once again, “Do you have a Park Tool FR-1 in stock?” They said, “no, we have to order those.”

More seriously, Recycled Cycles has a TON of properly vintage performance bikes hanging above head, throughout the entire shop. Road, track, mountain. Paramounts, Cinellis, etc. And they're ridable, provided you pump up the tires (or put on new ones). On the surrounding walls are more frames, but they're all broken in some manner, but they still serve the greater "museum" purpose.

My LBS has a few empty shelves inside with cobwebs and dust over everything. The windows haven't been cleaned in so long it is hard to see inside unless you get up close and shade your eyes against the glare. The sign is all faded. The sign post is rusty.

Alki Bike & Board usually has an eclectic mix of stuff and they do allot of repairs on older bikes and even helped me with a few things that had stumped me - threaded headset washers - This was hanging in their Shop a few years ago

The young guys who ran the LBS went in whole hog for the new 'fake' MASI bikes in single speed and fixie versions. The building was too big (rent $) and they were over-stocked for the number of bike-buying customers they had. It was a double-edged sword - less stock would have left the place looking empty and bare. They were not in a particularly 'wealthy' area, so they could not rely on boutique pricing and lots of discretionary spending.

His dad was a shop owner and his youngest boy hangs around watching daddy and stuff on the monitor, kids and bike videos when dad is busy. People come in and get ready for touring events and races.
It only looks quiet.
