Not seen any 'Gravel" special bikes used on this years Paris-Roubaix,

1- because the cobblestones actually make up a relatively small part of the race. The advantage of the thinner tires on the rest of the course apparently outweighs the time advantage of the wider tires on the cobblestones.
2- they don't care how comfortable they are, only their fastest time over the entire course.

There's no gravel bikes in Paris-Roubaix, because there's no gravel. Clearly they're riding Cobble Grinder bikes, which is half way between a gravel bike and road bike (coming to an LBS near you in 2019!)

The title of this thread makes me smile. I picture my wife saying it as I thrill her with yet another rehashing of my adventures 
I'm having a blast on my latest bike. So much fun for $50. Wed I went for 1:45hr's of hard effort riding and today I put in another 3hr's.

The bar ends are more aero than hoods. I would say the hood position is like the bend where the brake levers are. That is a very comfortable wide rest with easy access to the brake.

"Gravel" is a marketing term in the best sense, because it focuses the mind and opens new possibilities. There are no road surfaces called "hybrid" where I live, but I am surrounded by gravel. I immediately get why I would want a gravel bike, and the riding possibilities such a bike opens to me fire the imagination. The term likewise focuses the mind of brand managers and gives them a target to optimize toward. I readily understand that a gravel bike can span the range from rough pavement through to easy singletrack. I hybrid bike is a mishmash designed with no clear goal, whereas a gravel bike has a clear purpose that spans a range of real-world surfaces surrounding where I live.

I've been checking out the new gravel bikes from Trek. I have a Trek FX right now, the 7.4 with a carbon front fork. Yeah the gravel bikes are nice, but they do appear very similar to the hybrid I already own.
From this thread, it's good for me to see that I'm not the only one who thinks that.

I think in some cases, what people call a hybrid is just a gravel bike with a flat bar. My wife rides my old Salsa Casseroll. This can easily be called a gravel bike, and it is a very good one at that. But as soon as I switched the drop bars to a flat bar for her, everyone started calling it a hybrid.

I forgot to mention that I swapped the regular tires on my FX for the Bontrager CX3's that come on the cyclocross bikes now. On cement they're okay, but much better on gravel and dirt than the stock tires.
