I am down for a monthly vintage ride in Sacramento. May want to do third Saturday of the month rather than force people to choose SF or Sac. I would be happy to help.

I'm picturing Mike, frantically wrenching away on a French bike, trying to get it finished by 10....

Remember to pump up the tires!

We had 5 today with @Genjockey, @Puegeotphil, @Greentei, Ted from the CR group, and myself. I bought a Puegeot yesterday to make sure there was a French bike on the ride for stage 2 of the TdF.

Can we assume that Hetchins is older than we normally see?

I guess the answer would vary based upon what Hetchins your normally see.

I believe it was a 1972. He's had it since the 70's (I think he said he got it from his cousin). It was his 3rd Hetchins, the other two were smaller since he got this one when he stopped growing.

Huh, maybe they had different livery styles available, seems like we usually see the big billboard all caps ornate lettering.

No matter to me, any Hetchens gets my attention regardless and this one is no exception.

It was a very nice bike. I was at the start first, he was second. My jaw dropped when I saw him riding up. It was in great shape the lugs were amazing.

I purposely didn’t call it out in the post, I wanted to see if anyone noticed it.

IMO you would have to be comatose for this to not get your attention, this one is very "subtle" being all black.

Some find these over the top, which is the whole point as far as I'm concerned.

Someday, maybe.

it is one of a very few bikes that I would consider a “grail” bike for me. If an early 60’s showed up I don’t think I could pass it up.

Yep, me too, I'd also go for one of the ones in the duel too, they're exactly what that's all about to me.

Man, I'm confused. Your statement implies you only have one bike.

It's a 12 step program.
Start with 1 bike, then 2...

I spent my day off on Friday geting my Masi ready to go, but then the shop called and told me that my car wouldn't be ready to go untill Saturday. I did find out that if you don't tighten the Italian BB fixed cup on initial assembly, it unscrews in the first mile! DOH. I put it together, and then bought a specific tool for the cup, and while waiting for the tool... I forgot that I was waiting. Old age sucks. Sorry I missed it. Looks like August is out, but maybe September!
I would also drive the 2 hours to ride in Sacramento again, and I second the idea of a different Saturday so some can visit both groups.

I think we all learn that one the "hard way".

Hope to see you in September.

Indeed, about halfway back from Vernonia on our PNW Banks - Vernonia and back ride yesterday, July 3, the drive side retaining ring on the Phil BB had significantly unscrewed, allowing ample side to side play in the BB such that the non drive crank arm was hitting the chain stay if I wasn't careful. Fortunately, miles and miles of gentle downhill were nearly at hand, and a generous member of our party of 12 drove me the last 5 miles to the start in Banks.

I'm told blue loctite is your friend for Italian BB drive side cups!

Thinking of joining ride from Sacramento

Just trying to confirm if there will be a ride this month. Starting up a Sacramento group and trying to get some insights and camaraderie!
