GMR 4th of July. Yes it's early. Suck it up...

may flew by and june's nearly here. that means the annual 4th of july (or thereabouts) ride is nigh. it falls on a wednesday this year. i haz zero idear what the local constabularies
will do in terms of road closure or lack thereof. i'm assuming gmr will not be closed. perhaps some local yokel can update this thread with the latest & greatest. so who's in?
stage from encanto, pioneer or road's southern end. gmr/grr to the village and back on the 4th? who's in?

I'll see if I can round up some folks. Our club had a ride up there on the 12th, but we lost half the group due to rain, so some may like a do-over.

When y'all pick an actual date, let me know. Every once in awhile I've got, you know... family stuff. I haven't even mentioned Onyx in June to her yet.

Even if it's not closed, traffic should be light on a wednesday. I have never made it on the fourth, wouldn't mind it this year, especially if it stays unseasonably cool.

It will take me an hour and a half to get to the start, so probably will not make it.

Well, considering you are slower, I can always start later and catch up.

Just teasing. I also was slow getting up to Dawson Saddle. Placed in the bottom 50% on Strava, which means I am slower than average. It would be great to ride together again, so we'll see how the 4th looks as the time gets nearer.

Not really, what it ACTUALLY means is your effort that day was slower than 50 % of everybody else's best effort of all time.

I'm planning to join you all on this ride but I also intend to start fairly early - 7 AM or 7:30. I'm considering starting at the Claremont Metrolink:

I'll definitely be on the ride GMR/GRR on the 4th. Last year I told Missy at Mt. Baldy Lodge that there would be a lot of cyclists up there on July 4th so she baked two pans of her famous cinnamon rolls and sold every one. Usually, she only bakes the cinnamon rolls on Sat. and Sun. but she made an exception for us.

What do you think? Should I ask Missy to bake come cinnamon rolls for the 4th of July?

maybe it's just me but I'd rather have a quality beer on tap vs a cinnamon roll. fewer calories. maybe they can install a few taps for some quality craft beers in mt. baldy village before the 4th?

Roll at 0730 - at the lodge ~0945? Too early for beer for me, even though it's always 5 o'clock somewhere.

Coffee and cinnamon roll sounds great.
