Troul: Did you contact Dinotte about their new taillight that is coming out like I suggested. I spoke with Dinotte and the 6 led type C USB charging with about 8 hour runtime On solid light and 40 hour run time on slow pulse sounds interesting. It was supposed to be out already but supply chain problems stalled its release. Dinotte told me about Two weeks and It is near as bright as the older daytime only taillight.

If the lumens & size specs are appealing, setting for an eight hour runtime could be feasible... especially if USB-C equipped.

I didn't contact them, as the website is what I relied on to list what they are currently retailing.

RockBros 850 lumen with blink for daytime use also and Solaris 250 Lumen for rear that can be toned down for night riding. I also have a headlight mount on the helmet for night riding in addition to a backup light on the front, both of those in the 200 lumen range and have had for years. The RockBros has a 10,000 mah battery and can also be used to charge USB devices. Both RockBros and Solaris lights were under $30. each and are awesome lights. I like night riding even more now.

I will stick with dinotte for daylight visibility lights. They are high quality and american made. They have the brightest lights. I can't say they advertise the brightest lumens. Different manufactures use different methods for determining how many lumens their lights produce.

A few months ago, I bought a Cygolite Hypershot 350 taillight. It's the brightest taillight I've ever had. One day, someone riding behind me might complain, and I'll need to figure out how to deal with it, but I don't usually ride with people. I spent $50. I haven't tested the battery life yet. It charges with USB-micro.
Cygolite products have been durable for me, and I got good service when one went bad prematurely.

I may see if it's possible to swap the USB out for a C style or just shove in an adapter... but ugh that'll be an ugly sight I'm no small electronics specialist, but am one to tinker.

@Troul, how long does your taillight battery last, and on which mode?
I don't recommend changing the connector. That seems more likely to fail than the original one.

Thanks. I use one of the blinking modes which uses less energy. I guess it's time for me to time it.

I have the Hotshot 150.
The best daytime mode is the short, sharp single flash "Daylightning". It's visible at noon for a quarter mile up the road. And still has a very long run time, since I have it set to 2 flashes per second.
For evening group rides, the only non-annoying mode is the steady glow, dialed down to it's minimum brightness.
Run times from the box. 1 flash per second is 37 hours. Steady light at max is 2 hours.

My Solaris 250 on bright steady was still going strong at 4.5 hours. It's rated to go 5 and I believe it. My RockBros 850L headlight on high was still going strong too at 4.5 hours of bright steady, it's rated for 10 hours on the highest setting. This is the longest night ride I've done since getting them, but am really pleased with both of them. On blink settings I',m sure they'll last at least a full day with rating close to 40 hours for both.

Riding is my addiction
For a good bright light with a few brightness and flash settings I'd checkout the Olight RN1500, USB C charging, it's a good solid light.
I have one and I'm happy with it.

my wife and I have the 250’s and freaking love them, we are never too far apart, but incredibly noticeable. We do some driftless area side road riding, and we climb and descend at different rates, so 1/4 mile to 1/2 a mile isn’t uncommon. But th e250’s are killer, I couldn’t imagine how bright the 350’s are.

What I've been meaning to try is plug in a battery bank while using the light at the same time.
Based on how it charges, something tells me it would not function as thought...

I used my newish taillight (Cygolite Hypershot 350) for over 2 hours yesterday. Then I brought it inside and turned it on and set my ipad to record a video so I could see what time it crapped out while I slept. After nine hours of running, I woke up and found it still running. I couldn't continue the test because the flashing was too annoying. So over 11 hours on flash. That's more than I expected!

My old 2017 era Cygolite SL-50 Hotshot won't hold a charge anymore, but it'll run off a USB battery for as long as the battery holds out. I'm considering putting it on my heavy trike or errand bike. Those are already over 30 lbs so a few extra ounces from a USB battery velcroed to the frame won't matter.
Heck, it could be a white LED headlight and just glue on a red filter, or better yet cut out a proper taillight lens from an auto parts store to get the kind of dispersion and angle of view you'd get with any automotive taillight.
The NiteRider Lumina Dual 1800 is a white LED headlight with an automotive type lens to focus the beam. Add a red filter -- instant taillight. Huge battery, runs 6 hours at 350 lumens steady when new, 10 hours on pulse, longer on flash. And I think it''ll run and charge simultaneously from a USB battery -- I know my older, smaller NiteRider Micro 800 will. Pricey for a head or tail light, but one of the best bike toys I've ever owned. My Lumina Dual 1800 is going on four years now of regular use. Runtime per charge has decreased a little but still runs long enough to get me through my longest rides.

Not all bike lights will run and charge simultaneously from an external USB battery, so I appreciate those that do. For example the Light & Motion Rando 500 will do so only in low output and only with their proprietary USB cable. IIRC, my older L&M Urban 500 won't run at all while charging, so it's effectively dead now since it won't hold a charge and the design makes it impractical to crack the case to replace the battery.
Most of my other brand headlights will run and charge simultaneously in all modes while plugged into an external USB battery. And NiteRiders appear to be fairly easy to open to replace the internal batteries.

Pick any light you like that can be run and charged simultaneously via a USB battery and cable.
