I had a sudden attack of pancreatitis last Wednesday night that landed me in the hospital for three days. I was feeling really good this morning and decided to hop on the bike and give it a try. Ended up doing one lap around the park and subdivision for 24, not so fast miles. Didn't want to push it so today was a very nice and easy ride. No issues during or after the ride.

Good health to you John_V. Thankful for modern medicine.

14.8 quick miles on the Allez. I'm pushing my luck with a rheumatism flare up in my right thumb but just had to ride. Overheated a little as I dressed for colder than what it was, but overall a nice, if overcast, ride.

Not much time for riding this week, so I tackled the hilliest 5 mile circuit in my area. Hadn't ridden it since September and found it easier to use taller gears than I did a couple of months ago, and granny-geared up the final hill that I usually had to walk. Good challenge when I have only half an hour to ride.

24°, 15 knot winds when I left, 10 miles to the bike store & a coffee break.
Was hoping to have a tail wind the ride there was into the wind, but cooled off & the wind died down.
Riding studs with 35 psi (when I left the heated shop) & 1/2" of snow was like riding up hill all the way.
Good work out for a 20 mile ride.
Got home, 17°, not much heat from the sun now.

90% on Paved paths along the roads, not much snow .

Practiced keeping the cadence up around 80, much more & I start bouncing.

Dressed in layers & a balaclava.

Some nice views

Wife and I rode the park circuit yesterday and should ride again tomorrow (Tuesday and Thursday is bike day with the wife). Wife is getting better at going longer distance. Wind was a killer yesterday at about 15-20 mph.

One thing happened yesterday that some of you northern folks don't have to do........had to move a copperhead off of the path yesterday to keep little kids and dogs from getting bit. Needless to say, the snake did not want to move into the cooler grass.

My regular 25+ mile distance, yesterday afternoon, but it was interesting in a different way. One of the CTW-5, TH-57C helos had to make a precautionary landing in one of the many farm fields along my routes. Probably a warning light on the panel that would have the instructor put in, and not take chances. It happens frequently around our area, lots of OLF for NAS Whiting Field, where CTW-5/HT-8, HT-18 and HT-28, are based, at South Field. They have a truck, trailer, and a wheeled dolly that attaches to the skids, set up to retrieve the birds when they have to sit it down somewhere. Got to know the folks at South Field when we did several structures, for Whiting Field, over the years, last one was the new ATC tower our company built. I got to be the engineer on that one, it was a career topper for me.

Had a good 37 mile ride this morning. Perfect weather and even got a chance to ride with Tarzan for a few miles.

A quick 12 miles during lunch on another splendid December day in southern Illinois (no joke). 60f weather and empty paved paths.

Today was even nicer! Nice enough that I took the long way home - 22 miles total. Am I delusional to think that Central Indiana is in the midst of an Early Spring?

It would be a beautiful day for a bike ride except for the wind. Not very strong but very steady. Even with the wind, I had a nice 40 mile ride with my buddy Marcel this morning.

No ride yesterday (Dec 10th - my 49th 21st birthday). Rain, wind, snow. 17.3 miles today on the Roubaix. Overcast to begin with (so not too cold) then sunny. Nice ride.

Around 17 miles on a 75 degree Friday afternoon. Seemed like it was all uphill and against the wind in both directions. Okay, just against the wind - if I head westward in late afternoon the wind is usually in my face and then switches directions on the return trip. Makes even the downhills feel slow. Sure beats the alternative - more rain this weekend.

Two days out from my focal cryo-ablation for prostate cancer, I bicycled the 5 miles to the LBS to say hi to everyone heading out for the morning ride. Slightly zig-zag back home for 6 more miles. Completed on wife's balloon tired 26" 7speed with seat reversed. Bicycling so slow I found 38 cents in the bike lane on the way back. Foley catheter really didn't hurt tooooo much.

Very windy this morning and the legs were a bit sore for some reason (I very seldom get sore legs). Met my buddy Frank and opted to sacrifice speed for distance so we did a nice and easy 55 mile ride.

Since it is an incredible 75°F here in Richmond, Virginia, I got out my '85 Fuji and went for a nice ride (almost 25 miles (24.88 to be exact)), in 1 hr 30 min @ 16.5 mph pace.

I stopped briefly at an old cow pasture alongside the road and took a picture of my Fuji at the wooden fence and pasture in the background.

Butch, nice pic. Would that be Hanover County by any chance?

We took the tandem out for 51.5 miles today, as we've been doing lately a quick pop out for lunch. On the way through Concord we stopped for a bit at the North Bridge and checked out this relatively new memorial. A bit of lesser-known local history.

No... It's in the far west end, along Patterson Ave and River Road (almost across from the golf course - Richmond Country Club).

Rode the Roubaix from Sparks to across Reno for lunch with a friend. It was snowing when I left so 5.5 quick miles on the shorter route home in the snow to finish a 16.2 mile ride.

The zip tie I strapped around the tube to hold a loose front derailleur hanger brad tight is working fine. No easy fix for the carbon fiber frame. Popular consensus is "It's not supposed to do that". 'Merican ingenuity.

As a matter of fact, I did ride today. Pfffft, it's only Dec 12.

Took one of my classic racers zipping around town for a 5mi loop. Nothing big, but then we really dont ride much in December. Nice day. Again. Unreal.

Friday and Saturday were both 25.55 miles, its still quite warm here, and even this next front isn't forecast to bring cold temps. And, I have every intention of taking full advantage of these temps.
