Of all the bikes that could be converted to single speed, why in the hell would you choose a 520?,,,,BD

call me crazy, but i dont mind it. it was done cleanly, its fully reversible, its got clearance for cross tires, and fenders. it really does make a nice platform for a simple ss city bike/commuter

the only thing i really dont like is the bar/brake lever combo it either needs:
bullhorns/tt levers
dirt drops/aero levrs

either way i wouldn't be embarrassed to ride it (if it were my size)

I'd be embarrassed to ride a single speed road bike with canti brakes, period. It's not a CX bike, it's a touring bike. The reason
it had the canti's in the first place, was for slowing down on hills well enough to be safe. Climbing hills with a single speed
is simply something I would never do. So basically that conversion makes no sense at all. Just my opinion, though. It's
like putting chrome 20's and candy paint on a Cavalier. Sure a lot of people do it, but it still looks silly to most people.,,,,BD

i can see where you are coming from, its definitely not a cx bike but i cant help but think its a great commuter. cross tires are good for poor roads and weather conditions and the cantilever brakes provide plenty of clearance for fenders, again, good for commuting. the fact that it is a touring bike also means that it would accept a rack well, again, good for commuting. 20in wheels and candy paint on a caviler serves no reasonable purpose... but i get your point
im also they type that will train on a fixed gear bike (and i'm not afraid of 20mph winds or 7% grades while im at it)

RARE Kent Dual Drive Tandem - $275 (Pleasant View ,TN)

I sent an email and asked them what was rare about theirs vs. the other hundreds for sale, their response was "then don't buy it!" my response was "then don't list it as rare!"

You know, I have an idea involving one of those and a chainsaw engine...

With the right gearing and wheels & tires I think I could get 60mph out of it easy.

Vintage Original Motobecane

Early 70's one owner Motobecane in great shape. Huret, Stronglight, red Vetta saddle. Lugged frame. This is a nice vintage bike. 23" seatpost. Asking $290. email for more details.

I emailed him, asking what model it was, fully assuming it was a super overpriced Mirage or Super Mirage. But if, by chance, it was a fully Campy 'Le Champion' - I would have at least gone out to check it out.

Turns out it's a Grand Jubilee. Nice bike, but $290? Come on.

I am selling my stunning Tandem Bicycle. This baby is hot… brand new white wall tires, zebra seat covers with zebra furry cup holders to match. Custom red paint with yellow polka dots. This bike is very rare and a total must have. When cruising, everyone and their brother can’ help but stare in envy. Asking $250. Call 623.221.4447

Fuzzy zebra seats and cup holders on a custom yellow and red polka dot frame?

That's probably not envy they're staring with, bro.

I love the freedom with which CraigsListers use the terms "rare" and "a must have." Used bike salesmen are even worse than used car salesmen.

Actually, that is near the top of the Motobecane touring line up with, IIRC, Reynolds 531 main tube frame setup and nice components. $290 in a good market is not so out of line.

I know you're right even though I don't want you to be, I just want it to be cheaper because it's the first decent bike in my size in a LONG time to come out of local Craigslisting.

It's a fair price, but at that price it's not much of a "find" for a CV'er.
