I got a pretty light one from that Swiss Company .. pletscher zoom kickstand

cleverly the foot uses 2 bolts, joining the top, so if you later want it longer, you can do that..

a kickstand encourages bad habits, primarily not locking the bike when not in use. if i am not with my bike then it should be locked up.

But then it slides and ends up on the ground or something, ever had that happen?

A bike standing remains standing and it's easier to chain when it's stable and not wanting to slip.

Not to mention it doesn't get scraped up doing so.

Where did the 'new math' come from? Is good bad and right...oh wait, that's P&R...

I DID spend good money making my bikes nice though, I don't let them lay around haphazardly.

Of course, my 3/4 of my bikes are older than half of you.

Hmmmm, not necessarily. My bike has a kickstand and it is locked up every time it's out of my sight even.....if it's just for a second or two.

Good for panniers

A heavy duty kick stand would be a god send for my heavy touring frame with panniers. It also scrapes the walls of my apartment. Different strokes for different folks.

Does it? I don't find that to be the case. I've always had a kickstand, and I've always (well, ever since I moved to the city) locked my bike whenever I'm going to be away from it.

Just added a Clickstand to our tandem. Was tired of laying it on the ground, especially in group rides where leaning posts are hard to come by. Works well.

That stand makes good sense for a tandem or loaded bike, but I bought (and still use) a Flickstand in '78. I've no idea if they are still made- and I now need 9 more!It is a small wire loop that folds down and holds the front wheel straight ahead, allowing you to lean the bike against anything without it falling over because of the wheel turning out.

I always had a kickstand and always used it until I bought a bike that didn't come with one. At first not happy, tried to install one but failed. So I rode without a kickstand for many months. Then someone gave me one that could fit my bike. But then I never felt the need for it, so I removed it. I think kickstand may be more important if you have heavy load on your rack and needed to stop to access the load or fix something in the middle of the road with nothing to lean the bike against.

Wieght reduction bro. Nah I just don't like them. I have had one bike with a removabke kickstand where I kept it. It was a Lotus Pegasus and it had an ESGE heavy duty double, that was so worn out, I shoulda removed it, but I pulled a trailer with it too.

When I got seriously into cycling and was completing the purchase of my - what was for me - expensive road bike, I asked "what about the kick-stand". The LBS owner smiled ... sympathetically, somewhat kindly but with a touch of condescension, and said softly "people don't usually get kick-stands with these bikes". So, duly chastened, I didn't get my kick-stand and 9 years later have never had a kick-stand and have no regrets.
