I picked up this mid to late '80s Campy equipped Pinarello Record 10 days ago. Did a complete overhaul. The guy I bought it from was in the process of packing up a trailer to move about 1000 miles away. He just wanted to get rid of it because he didn't want to take it with him so he sold it for cheap. He said he was thinking about donating it but didn't know where and didn't have time to run all over town to drop it off somewhere. He measured the size incorrectly and it is a little on the small size so I will probably be passing it on. It has leather wrapped bars with the stitching looking like a baseball.

Been away from my computer for the past ten days, or so, helping my mother. Two days before I left for Calgary, I found this old CCM at the dump...
Yesterday, when I got back to the cottage by the lake, I had to drop some stuff off at the dump and this nice old Baraccuda was there, along with three or four other bikes, waiting for me. Might also bring a really clean old Raleigh step through home today, but for now, the Barracuda...
And, just for fun, here are some of the other things to come home, with me, from the dump...

Sorry, haven't felt inclined to picture the thing. Pulled a DBX (exclusive branding of Dick's Sporting Goods) Vanquish, 24" wheeled, mountain bike out of a dumpster behind a bike store last week. Missing the front wheel and the handlebar grips, but otherwise I haven't found anything actually wrong with it. Don't presently have any spare front wheels in the 24" size to put on it, but being a kid sized bike something is bound to turn up eventually. Also scored a used mountain bike tire with some life left in it from the same dumpster, but in the 26" size. Still trying to figure out why they tossed the bike, it's a national chain type-shop that only opened up late last year in the area, so thinking maybe it was a bike someone dropped off to have worked on and then never came back to claim or something.

I picked this up yesterday for less than $30. A 1984 Miyata 610 touring bike. It will be my first foray into canti-brakes for a bike in my fleet (I've done one bike already with cantis, turned out well). What you see is a bike after I removed the splotchy bar tape also installed on the top tube and seat post. So weird. Also mega weird: reflectors EVERYWHERE. Ugh. Paint nicks and scratches on every surface no matter how you manipulate the frame. And of course it is very dirty, with the dirt caked on pretty good. Moss/green stuff growing indicates this sat outside for a while.
I bought the bike as I am just tired of trying to work with the limited internal dimensions and curvature of standard reach side pull brakes--this in regards to fender installation. I want larger tires with easy fender clearance, easy fender installation, and brakes that will allow a fully inflated 32mm+ tire to be taken off/put on.
I am heavily leaning towards powder coating the frame as all the paint issues due to insane previous owners. The stem and seat post came out easily, and the rust factor is by no means the worst I've seen. I am very much looking forward to getting it road-worthy again. It's a high-ranking Miyata (behind the 1000 in the touring line-up), so it's good!

I've seen what you've done with some old, neglected frames and I'm looking forward to seeing the build on this one. Is it wearing 27" wheels, and if so, are you going try to step down to 700c to squeeze in a bigger tire+fenders? You saw how it worked out on my old Cannondale.

Got this freebie Cannondale today for parts. Those Oakley and Racetech stickers aren't original.
Anyone know anything about this frame? I'm not familiar with Cannondale mtb's.

3.0 means it's 1990ish. Google "vintage cannondale catalogs" and you can find the exact model from the pics, colors listed and that crank. Without doing that my guess is 1991 or 2.
Save those little plastic top tube cable guide$. There's a thread or two here on how to safely remove them.

As far as colors, Schwinnderella is an inspiration point. I want the coating to be metallic. This 610 is a blue metallic, and that's just a classy paint element, and I want to keep it as it is the character of the bike. But....I like the steel blue, but am not in love with it. A white metallic coating is what I am thinking currently. Back up option is a dark steel grey metallic. Decals will be from Velocals (they have the wrong font for their '84 610 decal set...) and I will get the fill color to be the steel blue as a tribute to the original color. Plus: white with steel blue equals good.
I will be stepping down to 700C from the stock 27" rims. I researched BF via The Googs (Google) and was able to snag some Tektro CR720's with adjustable slots. They are silver and in great shape. Koolstop Salmon pads and we should be good to go. Selling framesets and that will help fund this!

I put classic Wald chrome fenders on mine. They are super pain to install, nigh impossible to get a good chainline. They are cheap, though, and fit big balloon tires.

I just need to pop out the headset pieces and it'll be ready for powder coat. I've talked with one of the local powder coat guys (they've done a frame for me before and it turned out great), and will be bringing it in as soon as I can. The wait is two-three weeks (my enthusiasm makes me impatient about this), so if a non-stocked color needs to be ordered, then it won't affect the overall time line.

OH DANG! How do you like that ride? I loved my Mirada, and am seriously kicking myself for selling it because I didn't have room for it on the moving truck.

I'm pretty happy with it so far, I've only put maybe 2 miles on it around the block, but it's quiet and a super plush ride. Only issue right now is that the original derailleur cant sweep across the full 8 speed cassette, and there is interference on the smallest cog.
Fenders wont be an option with these tires I don't think, but thanks for the tip on the Walds!

I'm really happy with this find: a Boeijen's Sport "Campione Corsa Sportivo". The Campione decals are probably generic, and Boeijen a bike shop in Belgium or The Netherlands. It looks like a seventies Belgian build. It's tall (62cm) and short (55), has Shimano dropouts and fork ends, and takes a 26.2mm seat post. It has clearly been well cared for, as it's nice and clean, and all the moving parts are really smooth. Should be an easy and fun build.
