Todays ride on the Pinellas Trail near Tarpon Springs, Florida.
Not the best of pics of a Gopher, but they are a protected species. Getting too close or otherwise disturbing them can get one cited for harassment.

I have no idea if this is gonna work, but here is an iPhone pano from Minaret Road out in the Eastern Sierra. Beautiful day!
I'll see if I can get it on Panoramio so you can get a better look at it.

You would be calling them wrong if you had any in your area. The Gopher is a tortoise not a turtle.
Here you can read a little about the Gopher tortoise:

^ Thanks. It really is an amazing road. Somehow, I've futzed up my Panoramio password again (Grrr), but here is a better quality image I took at the top of that pass.
The road heads down into that gully behind them ... awesome views of the Minarets. Yosemite is on the other side.

I've got to stop looking at your pictures biker 395. I keep adding the shot locations to my bucket list of roads I want to ride on, and the list is getting too long! Having said that, where was that shot of mono lake taken from? I did the mammoth fall century last year, is that the road we took past the lake towards sage hen summit?

Yep. You would have come down off that little saddle in the distance, and made a right hand turn in the lit part of that basin down there. The Sagehen climb is just out of view on the left.
The pix was taken from the viewpoint at the top of the Conway Grade, coming back from Bodie. If you have't been to Bodie yet, you should definitely go ... great ghost town.

Mail box?
Here's a strange mail box seen on today's ride. (Maybe it should have been in the "strange things you see on a ride" thread.)
There used to be a "standard" mailbox on the platform to the left, down at that strange angle. I don't know what happened to it. Perhaps it fell off. Perhaps the mail carrier got tired of bending over to deposit mail. When I showed this photo to my wife, she said, "Oh, a junk mailbox for junk mail."

Another from the Eastern Sierra Double. He's not a 50+er, but he's a Bikeforumer.

She looks like she's tailor made for hill climbing.
