Good lord, I just read through some of the posts on the zwift riders facebook page. It's a fatal combination of newbies, know-it-alls, and the righteously indignant.

Hahah, yeah, it's a real hot mess. It goes way beyond the practical "training on a bike" stuff too. Zwift has some pretty ridiculous hardware requirements for the visuals, so you'll see people either cajoling others into buying video cards that are way overkill (GTX 980 for Zwift? cmon...), or bragging about their $$$ setup just for Zwift. If you've got the dough, go for it, but I hate to see people who are none the wiser get sucked into that echo chamber.

Burrito got dropped a while ago, like February? It was already dead when I first joined. It's in the "spinning prizes" bit for whatever reason.
I tried a couple ZTR?-C races, got shelled virtually immediately. The guys that "won" the C race (and there are Bs and As that are faster) were doing 300-350w steady. That puts me in F or G category.
(*ZTR = "Zwift Training Race")
I usually roll around at 100-120w, which is sort of my normal training pace, and sprint for the timed stuff that's 30 seconds or less (if I'm not feeling ill). On the KOM I end up groveling. I got to the left hairpin (about halfway up) the KOM on Watopia in 58 seconds or so, but my time was something like 4 or 5 minutes. Record is 3-something, doing more of a steady effort, and that's about what ZTR-C does on a neutralized warm up lap.
My best Watopia lap ever was 16+ minutes. The C group did it in 14:45 that same lap. I usually do 25 min or something ridiculous like that.
I'm just hoping that these riders burn themselves out. Or they end up pulling a lot in real life races. Because, holy cow, I get so killed by them in terms of w/kg.

carpediemracing - do you organize the Bethel Spring Series up in CT? I raced that pretty frequently 4 or 5 years ago... really enjoyed that and the Plainville races to kick off the spring up there.

BTW my speed sensor has no input to Zwift. Speed is calculated from ewang.

Sort of OT: I am pretty impressed at the guy who developed zwift. I remember when he just had some beta software that let you ride around a forest and collect coins. Now he has a facebook page for an online competitive racing game where people argue about innocuous crap. well done.

out walking the earth
he developed some stock trading thing. presumably this is what wildly smart rich folk do with their spare time in retirement.
I'm working on an online version of this

I know. I'm having a little fun. I'm sure that there is a way to make any language run a program online but there are languages that have been designed to run there.
Back to Zwift. Tomorrow morning I don't have time for the club Fred ride so I am going to do the Zwift Ride On for World Bicycle Relief ultra Fred fundraising ride. I'll donate a little myself as its a great cause. I'm planning on warming up at 8:30, then doing the Lawson Craddoxk ride at 9am followed by the cluster flock with Jens at 10am. This will be a test to see if Zwift can help me survive 2.5 hours on the trainer.

Yes, that's me. In 2015 it was the Aetna Nutmeg Spring Series. Secured same 3 cash sponsors from last year for this year, challenge is actually holding the races. If all goes to plan it'll be the 2016 Aetna Nutmeg Spring Series.

Just over 2 hours and 40 miles on the WBR ride. Craddock was great. I rode with him for most of his hour, chatting. I waited for Jens for 8 minutes and had enough, so I rolled off. Caught up with J. Scott for a bit, nice riding with you. I really hope they get to 40K miles to get the $40K from Trek. There were some crazy rando people out there in WBR kits. 100mi was nothing. I saw one guy had 440km and was still riding. On a fuggin' trainer!

That's half the number of folks who spent hours figuring out how to hack their trainer firmware to over report their actual wattages, and 1/10 the number of folks who are lying about their weight.
Just got my Tacx trainer. Watch out for a 120# Wim Van Heffu.

Last night I did the Sub2 ride as a warmup then 1.5 laps of the ZTR PDT (C) race. Four guys took off on the first hill while I chased with a group of 8 or so including the leader. I wanted to keep the whole thing around 2 hours so I bailed right before the climb on the second lap. I let the group know, and took a few sharp digs to launch them at the base of the climb.
