This issue affects tenting and hammocking. There are various remedies ranging from using nearby tree branches for staking out the corners of the tarp to using rocks or logs to weigh down the cord or to use technique similar to winter camping by burying the stakes horizontally.

I tent or hammock so I have no cat in this but IMHO when the ground is so soft, soaked with water there is no way I'm putting my tent down on that. I'd move to a spot that doesn't aggregate water so much. But in such situations there is no better place than being in a hammock, above it all.

We've gotten this far into the thread about "silly hammock-campers" and nobody has mentioned smelling of elderberries?
