Are you actually looking for a bike, or just a fun way to kill yourself? Because I hear good things about skydiving without a parachute. Or perhaps a budget parachute. I believe you could melt a bunch of plastic grocery bags together, stick it inside a Jansport, & have yourself a budget friendly parachute that will serve the same purpose as the "cheapest downhill bike".

Your bike will get you by for this offroad action:

But it's far less than ideal for this offroad action:

If you just want to ride off road, just get the best hardtail you can afford. Have you ever seen anyone try to actually pedal a downhill bike while seated in the saddle? It ain't pretty.

I'd just keep riding what you got and save your money 'til you can upgrade. Keep cruising craigslist. Here's a practically new Jamis Durango for about $400:

https://manila.tl.craigslist.com.ph/bik/2348756474.html

Keep looking and perhaps a slightly older, slightly better bike will pop up in your price range.

Mountain biking is expensive. I want an Impreza WRX STi, but I have a budget of $3000. Know what that means? Sucks to be me, that's what.

Nah when I do get a new car it'll likely be a mazda speed3. I live on the south so I have no need to sacrifice reliability for standard awd. I live the quirky style of the 2nd gen stis though.

Why in the world would you take the 2.3L bimmer engine and put it in the bus of a 5-series body? If you want that engine, get the 3 series. Maybe even the Z3 if you care little for room. And BMW's older V8 engines (4.0) don't have one lick of the reliability that the old I-6s do.

5-series suck, unless you want an M5, which just started being marketed in North America again this year.

And WRXs are the ish.

Beemers are expensive in the US. To buy, & to maintain. Take a used Mazdaspeed3 & 325i from the same year with the same mileage, & you'll easily pay at least $4k more for the 325i, not to mention the added cost of maintenance. And for what? For a name. And maybe power seats & a few extra inches of back seat leg room. I've sat in a MS3 & a newer gen 325i, the only difference I noticed in interior quality was the 325 leaned more toward classy-luxury, while the MS3 was sport-luxury. Didn't get to test drive either so I can't comment on handling, but I know the MS3 poops on the 3-Series in strait-line performance, & I doubt I'll stick with stock suspension in whatever I end up getting regardless.

Nah, but I do like to get the most I can for my money. And I know I can't afford the cost of ownership on a beemer. Might still end up having to go down to a regular 3 to avoid premium fuel, but I want a manual hatchback and those are damn near impossible to find with low miles within my price range on the regular 3. Still have a lot of options on my mind, those are just the ones at the top.

Somebody bought a Floyd Landis Race bike at a garage sale for $5. Turns out if fell off a transport vehicle and the finder had no idea what he had.

Straight-line cars are laaaaame. Get a German car that's ballin on the twistys.

I own a 99 M3, and it's been nothin but good to me. Long-run, take care of it and nothing will ever break. Sure, 91 minimum octane, but I don't mind too much, i commute via bike at college. Look for a well-maintained e36 bimmer ('92-'99 3-series), cheap car that will last you until well into you have an established career, Sam.

Old 4cyl diesel Mercs are dope everyday cars... not much for pullin ladies though.

(Beemer = BMW motorcycle)

Definitely agree with your first statement, but why risk it with an older german car when I could get a practically new japanese of equal performance and reliabilityfor the same price? And you still aren't factoring in parts. I know you can find old cars that will run forever, but older cars will be sooner due for gaskets, o rings, etc that may not cost much for parts, but can get pricey I'm labor, and bimmer techs are def more expensive (learned that one from my first bike)

Also, my dad is helping me out on a car up to around 16k, and he loves japanese cars, so I know I can get a little more breathing room for performance if I stick with the ricers. I'd love to have a bimmer one day, but id also like to have a luxury cat as a goal fir something to work towards all on my own.

$16000<$22000

$10 gasket<$20 gasket

See where I'm going with this? I need an economical car.
