One was wrong size, a semi pro had an unmentioned dent, and another semi pro just never showed up. I went through the regular claims process, takes a few weeks but works. If the seller misrepresents you really have them over a barrel, because eBay will pull the money from their account to refund you and they will be stuck with shipping fees both ways.

Yep, you are wrong. If a seller makes a mistake on shipping estimate I won't hold it against them as long as I get a refund. If they deliberately misrepresent or just plain try to scam, like the last few sellers I have dealt with, eBay makes sure you get your money back, which is my point.

I'm happy with my perfect eBay score with almost 500 transactions and having weeded out some scammers. And thanks for reminding me about internet trolls and not to waste time on forums
On the bright side, the eBay seller I'm working with now is really cool and is thanking me profusely for introducing them to Bikeflights.

Let’s stop with the back and forth eBay chat and return to talking about these wonderful bikes. Thank you.

Based on the rough clues, I would say this is the bike/auction in question.
I feel bad for the seller.

Question for Iron Nation, it seems that I don't see the all red and all black versions of the Ironman as often as the other colors. Is it just me, or are they less common?

I see one every once in a while. But they're definitely not as eye-catching as the other colors. So maybe I just gloss over them?

I would agree, especially the red. A few years ago, a father of a boy in our Scout den/pack had a red one. He was a tall guy. The bike was at least a 60cm. He decided to purchase a new bike. I tried in vain to purchase the IM from him. He refused and gave it to his nephew instead. That bike was trashed within a year. Sad, considering the bigger sizes are hard to come by.

They are less common. I suspect those color choices just not as popular as the other color schemes available in the same year.

I managed to score an all black ‘89. It’s in the cue.

I’ve had a couple of the black ones. Some think they’re a slightly tweaked version, frame-wise.
The last red one I built was for @cehowardGS. Doubt I’ll do another.

We're just guys on the web shooting the poop here.. if I've gotten it all wrong its not the first or last time. I'm allowed.
People wonder how bikes end up at the dump instead of listed in the classifieds..

The red and black were the only one-color models, and the red was especially cool, to me, anyway. Classy, brassy at the same time.
The one I re-did for cehowardGS was red, and I had it blasted, powdercoated red, again, and then used black lettered decals.
Came out nice, with black 105 9sp components, black wheels.
I've done a couple of black, and with the white lettering, It can be pretty cool with wheels that tend to follow that scheme, and black components, or classy with a polished group. I do not prefer the look of the GPX group on it, though I appreciate the group for the price point at the time. Were I to do another black one, and TriBiker19's frameset may be one, I'd select decals with silver lettering instead of white, and go with something polished, perhaps.
The black '89 Expert was the one that a couple of magazines tested, and were told by WSI that the geometry had been tweaked, with no proof, numbers, or measurements done. One magazine found the wheels to go out of true (on the 700x18 Technova II tires) and they complained about the ride, then swapped to 700x23 tires, re-trued the wheels, and thought it was great. Go figure. My guess is that WSI was still seeing so many fades and multi-color competitors, and after the success of the red/white (the only two-year scheme), they were reluctant to spec a lot of solid color frames. If you look at the other Ironman schemes back then, the Purple Haze, Hard Rock (grey marble), Smoke on the Water, and the really nice "straight fades," it's not hard to imagine that solid colors were not considered as marketable.
