Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Too bad I'm not shorter. This would be the most sacrilegious conversion but it does have rear facing horizontal dropouts...

Unknown track-style frame on CL

Anyone have any ideas on what this could be? Seller has not a lot of info about it. Geometry seems a bit off for a track bike.

Suspect the frame is from a 1950s or so British road/path racer. Looks nice, from what I can tell.

Lots of dudes ride tri/tt frames as fixed gears. Hell, I'd ride one. They're stiffer than me in the morning, and they're aerodynamic. They also often have "track ends" because you can get a wheel up closer to the seatpost with them. You don't need to worry about needing to leave room to get the wheel out, ya dig?

And it's a rear facing dropout because, unlike a track end, it has derailer hangers. However, in BMX, they are called dropouts, even though they're basically track ends.

This is silly. On BMX bikes, they're commonly called dropouts but on "track bikes", they're called track ends. There's no difference.

When I buy parts to build a frame, I invariably find "track ends" listed in the "dropouts" section of the catalog.

I'd love to dig through that. I'm almost certain there'd be a gem in there someplace.

Why do people do this? Especially when they grasp the concept of a bike actually needing to be the proper size. Also, less than four times? So, three times? Wtf...

The stem seems to suggest the frame was too big for him, unless that isn't the stem he used for the build.

58cm Merrick Track/Fixed Gear Complete Bike -Rare- - $900 (North Portland)

This is a hand built frame from the early 90's by Ken Merrick, the lead frame builder at the Waterford factory at the time. It features Reynolds 753 tubing, which was only available to frame builders certified by Reynolds and was deemed the most exclusive tubing they have made. The frame is sized at 58cm and features a matching stem built with the frame, I am 6'1 and it fits me perfectly. I am the second owner, the frame was in brand new condition when I got it. I have taken very good care of this bike, have trained on the track and ridden it on the street, maybe putting 2000 miles total on it. Please note that this frame does not accept brakes. There are a few minor scuffs and scratches, nothing that isn't from normal use. I am selling as a complete bike and will not part it out. I am asking $900, I am standing firm on this price given the rarity of the frame and the parts making this a very good deal. Please e-mail me if interested.

Bike includes the following build/parts:

-Miche Primato Crankset 170mm
-Miche 47 and 49 tooth chainrings
-Miche Bottom Bracket
-Izumi ECO Gold Chain
-Cinelli Criterium Handlebars size 44 w/black track grips
-Selle Italia SLR saddle w/ titanium rails
-Kalloy Seatpost - Black
-Tange Headset
-Wheelset: Miche Primato low-flange 32h hubs laced to all black velocity deep-v's w/ black spokes and nipples 16T rear cog
-Soma Rear 23mm rear tire, Schwalbe Stelvio 19mm front tire both with low miles
-MKS Sylvan pedals with MKS large toe cages and SAG black double straps
-Kashimax Top Tube Protector

I am including a brand new H + SON Formation Face rim (700c) that I have laying around.

Thanks!!!
I am loving this paint job!
