[Quote:] The "carbon bikes are lighter" idea needs to be more nuanced, I think. The latest 2020 Trek Domane models (specifically the mid-range SL5 and SL6) both weigh more than 20 lbs, thanks I suspect to their disc brakes. So... *some* carbon bikes are lighter but if low weight is what you want, don't assume carbon is the answer. [/Quote]
Huh, my 2017 Domane SL6 came in at 19.35lbs before the pedals went on...it did have carbon wheels...I guess the improvements for 2020 have added some heft. That said, my speeds are still well below the OP and the best way I'm going to get a lighter bike is to lose 10-20lbs of this excess donut, ice cream and cookie weight

Hmmm.....maybe I'm just not the sensitive kind. I see a bunch of good natured joshing and recognition of the grand slam the OP hit but nothing nasty.
It's actually been a pretty tame response for the original claims made in my book.

I own some very nice bikes with very nice equipment attached to them. I would be the first one to admit, however, that both my C59 and C60 are WAYYYYYYYYYYY faster than me.
I own those bikes because they make me smile when I ride them, not to go faster.

Actually, the idea of the USA being an egalitarian society is no longer a viable concept. Have you seen how the 1% live?

And yes, I know about the 1%. First hand.

Wasn't there a poster on SS/FG who claimed he could ride at 50mph+, on a FG with a 62/16 (or some such) without a lead car or fairing?
Can't recall the poster's online nick, but it went on for pages, and there were mixed for/against opinions about the braggadocio.
Oddly he never produced his Strava stats, a video of the event, or even pics of the bike.
The current OP also appears to have dropped his turd in the punch bowl and left.
I guess we've been dunked.

I'm on a couple other bike forums and whenever BF comes up there is a discussion of the hostility of the people here. I don't think that's generally true but some responses get personal and, I think, that's obvious. One can debate or disagree without attacking people.

That's nothing to get all bent out of shape for.

As I have said in a recent thread:
The 41 is a wide, deep and fertile pond for Trolling. Unfortunately the 41-pond is overstocked with an inedible invasive species, the Sock Puppet.
What little "hostility" I see here might just come from members getting fed up with the incessant Troll presence in the 41.
I know that part of the thankless efforts of the Mods goes to removing Socks from the pond as they are sure that they are not banning members with an "unusual or didactic" viewpoint by mistake.
That being said Mods, by all means "cleanse" away, but it's the Trolls not the riled BF members that are the source of "hostility": Ban the Socks.
And for (edit) myself, if something smells Trollish just click-away, don't feed the Trolls and/or hit that handy "Ignore" button.
Regards,
-Bandera

It is a core group, just a few people who are consistent in their behavior and it doesn't take someone calling people clowns to set them off. All it takes is a simple question or mistaken assumption and they immediately attack.
Bullies will always exist but the herd mentality is strong and some I've had respect for have joined the stampede.

Let's have a little reality check here for those getting offended with the responses. Can you really believe the OP was serious when he end's his post with this?
"Now I blow by the clowns in the peloton with their dumb time trial bikes and helmets and matching jerseys. Yeah, my endurance bike just spit gravel in your face. My wife won’t even ride with me anymore because I’m miles ahead in a matter of minutes.
So there you have it. 3 years ago I’m a 40 year old golfer that thought biking was for losers, now I’m at the front of grand fondos.
Can’t afford all this stuff? Not my problem. Stop wasting time doing nonsense and do something with yourself so that you can buy nice things on a whim. Or just work on your fitness I guess."
I mean, come on really? Dude made a classic troll post and it's an awesome. Give him some credit for that.

My thing is, sooner or later he’ll cross the line and we’ll catch up to him. You guys do a fairly good job reporting offenses so his clock is ticking. Most trolls for attention can’t get enough, so it’s just a matter of time.
But let’s face it, you guys (not you, of course) feed the trolls all the time, it’s irresistible. Cause it’s fun and different. So long as they provide good material you guys will flock to it, no harm no foul.
Its the the guys who get nasty for no reason, that’s who riles me. An intriguing troll . . . meh.

I mentioned BF on a group ride and someone said, "There's a bunch of *******s at that website."
