Lucky you; we could conceivably stay like this all summer. Again. We have May gray, June gloom, no sky July, and Fogust, although this year included most of April too. Our hot weather, when we get it, runs in the 70's, but it's all what you're used to.

As I was typing, some weak sun started to come through. Thirty minutes later, the marine layer was gone, the sun was shining, and the wind was blowing 18mph. Dragged my sorry butt off the couch and went for a ride. I figure 10 miles in that much wind counts as at least 15, so I rode 15 miles! It was wonderful. It even got up to 59F, just right for a Star Wars t-shirt over a wool base layer and capris.

There's hope for summer yet!

Sweet! Looks like the wind will be calming down and the temps will be going up. We have actually had summers where we didn't see the sun for two months at a time. Grim.

MAN! I was not ready for this weekend, after the cold Spring and cool Summer so far!

Fortunately, although not perfectly acclimated to the heat, I didn't get the heat syncope I sometimes get, the first warm ride of the year. And I remembered to drink a lot, and refilled twice. I now know at least 3 places to refill bottles on my usual Sunday route.

Ready to do it again? I was wearing a wool jersey and vest today battling the hurricane with my frozen hands. And then next weekend it's supposed to be 105. Lovely. My outdoor plants are not liking this one bit. Guess a 40 degree temperature swing in a week isn't good for plants or people...

Yesterday I laid out a short sleeve jersey for my ride, got dressed, took the bike out, rode down the block and thought, "Oh, HELL no." I completed the circle around the block, came home, swapped the short sleeves for long sleeves, and headed out again. Which was good, because the first 10 miles of the ride only got colder.

It warmed up slightly the farther South I went, but since the last 10 miles are the same place as the first 10 miles, I didn't feel like I'd overdressed.

At least when it was cold, the indoor Wahoo helped me warm up inside. Now that it's oppressively hot outside I don't even want to look at the Wahoo 😅

In MA, probably. In CA, not so much . . . yet.

We don't have to import any of the foreign smoke like you guys; we produce more than enough of our own. So far, fire season has been very low key. The key words in that sentence are "so far."

The Flat Fire in Oregon is over 8,200 acres; fortunately for us, the wind is blowing southeast. Fingers crossed it's knocked down quickly.

Well, poop. My wife and I drove through that neck of the woods on the road from Grants Pass to Gold Beach a few years ago. Beautiful, rugged country, really awful for trying to fight a fire. Here's hoping the fire fighters and everyone else in the area stay safe.

Right now I am sitting under the porch with a little breeze. 82 F according to accuweather. Feels great after a morning ride. Hope you guys are getting good weather too. I like to sit out here and watch the birds and cool down. Not too much cool downing required today. In for a shower soon.

It's one of those summers; rain here on the coast, thunderstorms and lightning strike fires inland. We're up to 23ish in the region. The storm's moving east to west; weird.

I heard about that; the only thing keeping our 23 wildfires manageable is lack of wind. This could get very ugly very fast.

What has kept the weather pleasant in Monterey is the cloud cover that prevents the pavement from heating up. In Phoenix the air temp was over 100 degrees but the pavement temperature was as high as 170 degrees. The reflected heat from the pavement contributes roughly half the heat our bodies feel with the other half from the ambient temperture and humidity.

We have historically had the most sun in September and the warmest temperatures but these days no one knows and even the national weather service is guessing which they freely admit.

Weather forecasting has always been educated guessing, they just get a little more educated every year.

We've been getting plenty of sun (sometimes), but except for a few days last week we can't seem to get out of the 60's.

Aaand that's over; another heat wave tomorrow; we're getting back into the 70's.
